A new dinosaur ichnotaxon, Ruopodosaurus clava, has been named by Dr. Victoria Arbour and team. Found near Tumbler Ridge, BC, the tracks likely belong to an unknown ankylosaurid and are identified by having just three toes. This is a rare find that may shed light on the ankylosaurid hiatus in North America.

A map of the northern part of BC and Alberta, indicating where the Ruopodosaurus trackways were found. They are mostly clustered around Tumbler Ridge, BC, with one found near Dunvegan Bridge, AB.A graphic showing the various species of ankylosaur and when they lived. The first page of the paper. It's mostly dense text.An artist's reconstruction of the trackmaker of Ruopodosaurus clava on top, showing a medium-sized heavily armoured dinosaur. It has no tail club but has extensive osteoderms around its body. It's grey / brown and walking on what looks like sand.

Below is are three pictures of the track: one the actual fossil, then a line drawing, and finally a false-colour relief.

This exploration of #fossils from the #Arctic nations wouldn't be complete without one of the most spectacular #dinosaur fossils ever found that happens to be named for the #North. Borealopelta, meaning "#Northern Shield," is a #nodosaur, a type of #ankylosaur, or #armored dinosaur. This #fossil, uncovered in the tar sands of #Alberta 🇨🇦 and displayed in the #RoyalTyrrellMuseum, preserves much of that armor in incredible detail.

#Patagopelta cristata roamed Earth during the Late Cretaceous epoch, between 75 and 70 million years ago. The estimated 2-m body length is very small for an ankylosaur, comparable with the dwarf nodosaurid Struthiosaurus.
