Two pelicans, cuddled together like twins, float on a blue bay, each keeping watch in opposite directions.

These large white birds with black feathers on top of their wings have tall slender white necks, very long slim pinkish beaks and large black-centred yellow eyes in their gracefully curved heads. The soft food pouches at the base of their beaks are ready to hold and store captured fish. Image Credit: Daniel Jones taken at Peaceful-Bay, Western Australia

MY garden is all small birds so very difficult to identify some of them, they move so fast.

But I just discovered my fancy bird app has instant image and sound identification. So could confirm I really did see a New Holland Honeyeater and a Striated Pardelote!

Day one of participating in the Aussie Bird Count and had a disappointing 20 minutes (where'd they all go??), and today is looking like it might be worse. Windy and overcast, all birds seem to have taken shelter.

I don't love how precise the sightings map on the #AussieBirdCount app is.

It's not identifying anyone, but I feel bad for the person that lives at Number 11 two streets away that now has it on public record that they think they saw a Forest Raven in Templestowe, VIC
