AAAND r e l a x.

Have now managed to access my Garuda Linux partition on my cloned backup drive. My data is
all there. I haven't lost anything.

Profound relief. ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING RISKY. :blobtonguewink:

As for why I couldn't mount this partition before I have no idea. But Gnome Disk and Thunar got in effortlessly. I just needed to install both from Cachy's Hello app.

Am copying stuff over now.
:aliendance: COPY ALL THE THINGS!!!

What would you lose if your phone died today?

Your memories? Your work? Your voice notes?

Most people wait too long to back up—because cloud storage isn’t always private or easy.

121Drop (in development) will offer a one-tap, offline backup to your external drive.

🚨 It’s ! 🚨

Your data isn’t truly yours if it’s stored on someone else’s server. Big Tech profits from your information—why give them access?

šŸ”’ I’m currently developing 121Drop, a privacy-first backup tool that keeps your files OFF the cloud. It’s not ready yet, but if you care about data privacy, I’d love your thoughts!

How do you handle backups? Let’s discuss. šŸ—£ļø

šŸ’¾ It’s World Backup Day!

Quick reminder: Computers crash. Files get deleted. Hard drives fail. But backups? They save the day.

If you haven’t backed up your important data recently, today’s the day to do it! Open-source tools like XWiki make it easy to keep your documents secure and accessible—without vendor lock-in.

šŸ”„ When was the last time you backed up your files? If you can’t remember, it’s time to do it now! Future you will thank you!

Hey hey, it's another fine day!

Another fine day to make back-ups of your important data for that inevitable day when "the cloud" fails and you really, really, *really* need to access it.

One thing I didn't think about when purchasing two of these SanDisk rugged drives, is they don't have a status light that would provide some indication that the drive has died.

A rugged external SanDisk drive that appears to be dead from testing on two computers.

Well. one of my old SSDs finally died. RIP 860 EVO, you were my first SSD, and you have since paved the way for all my future paranoia of file retention.

My #gopher site has been offline for a bit. I was running it on #lepotato and only recently got around to troubleshooting. I figured it would be an issue with the Wi-Fi dongle, since I also couldn't SSH into the system. Well, as it turns out, apparently the SD got corrupted and I've completely lost all the files and configurations.

So... It might be a little while before I get it back online.

Using a no-HDD Virtual Machine to back up a drive to the network's storage.

And the boot was over the network.

This is more entertaining than it needed to be.

Happy Friday and happy !

Follow the 3-2-1 Rule to avoid data loss:
• 3 copies of your data at all times—one working copy and two backups
• 2 copies on local devices
• 1 copy kept off-site in a remote location or in the cloud

If your backup strategy fails (or you fail to implement one in the first place), DriveSavers can help recover any lost data: 800-440-1904

Don't ignore the importance of backups! šŸ’¾ Regularly backup your important files to an external hard drive or cloud storage. That way, you can restore your data in case of a cyber attack or hardware failure. #BackupYourData #InfoSec

Time to simplify and size down offsite backups. What's the best bang-for-the-buck in 1TB flash-drives these days? Something with USB-C and USB-A connectors would be nice, but not a requirement. Always leery of the $29 units on Amazon, but also don't want to spend $200 if I don't have to.

Given all the who-ha over at #BirdSite and their offices being shut until Monday (at least!), I’d recommend requesting your data - you know, just in case there’s no-one left to make sure it’s available in future. help.twitter.com/en/managing-y #BirdSiteMigration #BackupYourData

Hi All, here is my #Introduction.

Raised in the 90s but surrounded by a culture of the 80s. First OS I regularly used was Windows 95. First OS I bricked by trying to bypass PGP full disk encryption was Windows XP. Since that was the family computer, my punishment was reformatting the drive, reinstalling the OS, its programs, and explaining to my siblings why their files could not be restored. #Learnfromyourmistakes #Backupyourdata

Over the years, I have worked in #webhosting, #datacenter operations, #sysadmin, #cyberthreatintel, and #infosec. I work on the #blueteam but occasionally work on #redteam projects. I often publish #opensource blue team tools on #github. Please feel free to submit PRs for contributions.

#LinkinPark and 80s rock.

I miss the days of #irc but I am excited to join the #mastodon community. Thank you to everyone at #infosec.exchange for welcoming me here. I look forward to building relationships with people here and love the culture.
