Astrofysici hebben mogelijk de bron van het mysterieuze Wow!-signaal gevonden

Het signaal, opgenomen in 1977, werd in eerste instantie toegekend aan een buitenaardse uitzending.

I swear that #BigEar had nothing to do with the #toothbrush story.

Don't look at me like that. I'm disappointed in me too.

@lil5
First a quick rant: DO NOT BUY SWITCHBOT. They are unsafe and have no warranty and they can suck whatever piece of my anatomy they find most distasteful. We couldn't afford to replace them, but we had to anyway because Fire is Bad.

Ahem. Anyway. Yes! The grow is driven by
#HomeAssistant (along with the rest of the #snarkhouse.) I can post the grow hardware BoM (my lights, plugs, etc) if you're interested, but the basic stack is #HomeAssistant as a #Truenas VM with everything else on ARM64 under #k3s. The control plane is CM4 on #TuringPi2, and Zigbee/Zwave pods talk to ser2sock + node-feature-detector to find their USB radios. (They are plugged into the client port of the Turing, so I can move them programmatically.)

On the far side of the radios, a cheap
#esp32 Rover handles #bigear listening as well as the MiFloras and #BLE hygrometers. Inside the grow tent, an #esp32cam on a 3d printed mount watches over the grow. Power relays are a mix of old #Securifi peanuts and new #ThirdReality switches. (DO NOT BUY SWITCHBOT.)

Edit to add: I use power use to confirm that the lights and such are working, and templated 'traffic light' sensors (ok/error) confirm that the schedule, the switch and the power drain all align. If it goes red, the house starts shouting at us about it.

The grow room environment graph. It shows about 24h. On the bottom, a large yellow overlay shows the lighting cycle. Very regular red strips show the stir fan raising the humidity, with fewer dark blue bands indicating the exhaust fan dehumidifying frequently at night and less so when the LED and associated cooling fan are running. The temperature climbs suddenly from 65F to 75F when the lights come on.

I should align the left and right axis labels but I won't.

Wait how come the new hydrometer is showing on that dashboard? Did I accidentally rename an old one?

Nope. Turns out I used auto-entities and it was magic enough to pick it right up.

Wanna know what LEO is doing nearby? Me too.

#snarkhome #bigear uses #ble heavily. I think I am going to build some more interesting listeners this winter. (I'm disenchanted with pure #homeassistant + #esphome as a framework. Maybe raw mqtt..)

I am also having more and more trouble saying "I don't need a ham license" with a straight face.

#weedlings look happy this morning

Taken with an #esp32 cam with #esphome and #homeassistant. Lights (intermittently 🤬) controlled via peanut plug. Circulation fan and exhaust fan are both reliable using switchbot. Random #ble sensor is sitting up high in the tent reporting temp/humidity to #bigear

Sunday the soil root stuff arrives and they go into little pots. The yellow 3 get ready for outside while the others stay here (gender permitting)

#weed #growyourown #homegrow #seedlings

A seed starter with several small generic looking plants growing out of it sits under a grow light and next to a dehumidifier. The led has caused rolling shadows on the image. The humidity is 50% and the temp is just below 80F.
The time knife is not visible.

The absolute best part of the #BigEar project is that I can just buy random #BLE sensors and throw them anywhere. Security is such a joke (its just broadcast) but the threat model is "someone driving past might notice that my pool is warm." 🤷 🌡️

(I do mean REALLY anywhere though, within about 4 yards/houses in most directions, using zero equipment outside the main house. Later I'll waterproof one and try it on the fence..)

Y'all shouldn't be buying #oralb toothbrushes or really ANY #bluetooth bathroom scale. Just saying. (And yes, I can probably see your growroom sensor too.)

@madelena

This is the one on my desk. No ads on mine 😸

Just a busted #prusa printer while I wait for them to actually ship my parts. (The extra week pre-ship delay has me irritable.)

On the right, the #bigear thinks the cat is nearby, the weather is HOT but wind/rain are low (good for flying #drones) and both the air and the pool are nasty levels of hot. (Air via #TomorrowIO, pool via a floating #BLE sensor.)

#homeassistant #googlecast #snarkhome #cast #pawscout

Most of this is described in the message text. There are icon-tabs at the top, a semi-live webcam shot of an idle orange-and-green printer, and on the right the dots at the top are icons for cat, temperature, etc. The middle is weather related, first a 2-day forecast and then 6 hours. At the bottom, the pool is 87F and running automatically.

@mharleydev
Definitely. If it were me, I would just mad-scientist the extra fob to an #esp32 or #esp8266 and stick electrodes in it's brain. (It probably runs off 3V, so you could power it from the ESP and save batteries.) That also prevents physical alignment shifts; it won't ever accidentally push panic instead, unless you soldered it wrong.

This approach is basically what I imposed on our coffee maker. It has a #switchbot wifi plug as a current sensor purely to detect manual runs, and a little esp32+relay inside that bridges the button contacts for automatic runs. The whole thing hides under the pot (no warmer in this one) and is only visible because of the extra usb wire. (Since the #esp32 upgrade, it also participates as a #bigear #ble listening-post.)

As it has evolved over the years, I've been too lazy to look for DC inside. If I ever do V2 I will fix that, and get rid of the relay and wall-wart in favor of instrumenting the switch+led directly.

Today's total pile of horse dookie is courtesy frequent-flyer #ESPhome. The latest release completely broke #BLE (and by extension, my #bigear)

Weirdly, #homeassistant can still "see" the tags, with it's broken distance calculation (weighted average?) and useless "source" field.

I'd file a bug but I am not arguing with #stalebot again. (And even their humans are not great.)

The #BigEar status bar has ears! (Actually just a speaker for now, but room for a microphone if we want.) Featuring the newest part of my fancy #openscad lamp system.

A black wled lamp with several added nodes including a speaker. Stripes of red, yellow and green indicate the feline proximity to various #bigear sensors

I had to adjust the thresholds, so I have held off on installing the remaining sensors. It's working under a foam mattress though, very impressive. If paper ends up not working, I've saved up Amazon bubble envelope mailers to try instead.
And the #bigear node doesn't seem to care about the added load, as hoped.
