#brGDGTs

Four weeks ago, my first co-authored @EuroGeosciences #preprint « #Reviews and syntheses: Best practices for the application of #marine #GDGTs as proxy for paleotemperatures: sampling, processing, analyses, interpretation, and archiving protocols » went online!

Nina Davtian (that's me!) at her work office, with the laptop screen showing the header of her co-authored preprint by Bijl and Sliwinska et al. (submitted to Biogeosciences) EGUsphere (https://doi.org/10.5194/egusphere-2025-1467) with her name highlighted in the author list. Nina is holding a mug on which the text reads « 2nd international GDGT workshop September 2023, Zürich ».

Let me explain in the following #thread why the (auto-)citation of Davtian et al. (2018) Organic Geochemistry—my second first-authored #PhD #scientific #publication—by De Jonge et al. (2024) Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems matters to me and my current CEREGE colleagues at CEREGE

I am honored to co-author the new #scientific #publication first-authored by Petter Hällberg! This time, it is the use of #levoglucosan rather than #GDGTs—as #paleohydrology rather than #paleotemperature #ClimateProxies this time!—which granted me this #collaboration and co-authorship!

I am so glad to be one of the two ICTA-UAB representants—the other is Joan Villanueva—for the interlaboratory #study led by Cindy De Jonge and Francien Peterse!

Header of the online article by De Jonge et al. (2024) GGG (https://doi.org/10.1029/2024GC011583) entitled "Interlaboratory Comparison of Branched GDGT Temperature and pH Proxies Using Soils and Lipid Extracts" and published as a gold open access paper in the AGU journal Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. The author list is organized as follows: the first two authors (Cindy De Jonge and Francien Peterse) led the study and contributed equally to the paper, with the help of the third and fourth authors (Klaas G. J. Nierop and Thomas M. Blattmann), whereas the rest of the authors (including me, Nina Davtian) are (mostly) ordered alphabetically as representants of the participating laboratories. To all #EGU24-goers (in #person and #virtual), I will have not one, but two first-authored #presentations on Tuesday 16 April 2024 in two different, non-EOS #sessions.
Ergo, one of my two first-authored presentations is a solicited one.

What if celebrate #IWD2023 by featuring two recent #scientific #publications with female first authors and involving some of the #molecular #fossils that I studied during my #PhDThesis?

Robles et al. (doi.org/10.5194/cp-19-493-2023) and Barhoumi et al. (doi.org/10.1016/j.quascirev.20) reconstructed past #temperatures using #pollen and bacterial membrane lipids named #brGDGTs.

Indeed, membrane plasticity adjustments to #environmental changes also yield complementary #ClimateProxies.

#InternationalWomensDay

Structures of branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs), a family of bacterial membrane lipids increasingly used to reconstruct past temperatures. The shown brGDGT isomers were first identified by De Jonge et al. (2013; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.orggeochem.2012.10.004) and Ding et al. (2016; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.orggeochem.2016.09.009). Molecular masses (m/z) with one decimal place are also shown for each brGDGT isomer.
