The image depicts a scenic landscape with lush greenery and rocky terrain. In the foreground, there is an area filled with large rocks and boulders scattered across uneven ground, suggesting a rugged outdoor setting. Beyond this rocky expanse lies a dense thicket of trees and shrubs, presenting various shades of dark greens and browns.

Dominating the middle portion of the scene is a railway track cutting through the landscape. The tracks are laid out in such a way that they follow the natural topography, curving around hillsides as it extends into the distance. A steam train is captured in motion on this rail line; its presence adds a dynamic element to an otherwise static environment.

The backdrop features towering cliffs or rocky crags adorned with vegetation, indicating a remote and possibly challenging terrain for railway construction. The sky above has a hazy quality, suggesting either early morning light or the onset of dusk, which casts a muted glow over the entire scene.

At the bottom left corner, there is text that reads "10863 - OHEEDALE, BUXTON," indicating the specific location as Buxton's Oheedale. The combination of natural beauty and human engineering in this setting provides an evocative snapshot of life during a period when railway expansion was transforming landscapes across Britain.

Buxton, pump room, Derbyshire, England between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of the British Isles England Derbyshire

loc.gov/pictures/item/20026966

The image depicts a historical scene from Buxton, specifically focusing on the pump room in Derbyshire, England. It appears to be an old postcard or photochrome print dating between approximately 1890 and around 1900. The photograph captures a well-maintained public square with classical architecture prominently featured.

In the center of the image is an ornate building resembling a small domed pavilion, likely serving as a pump room for its historical context. It features several arches under a semi-circular colonnade and multiple windows that allow light to filter through, creating a serene atmosphere.

The surrounding area includes neatly manicured lawns with pathways winding up the gentle slopes of what seems like park grounds or terraces. People can be seen walking on these paths, dressed in period clothing suggestive of late 19th-century fashion. A horse-drawn carriage is present at the bottom right corner, adding to the historical ambiance.

The background reveals a town-like setting with rows of buildings and distant structures that could be residential housing or institutional architecture such as schools or government offices. The scene conveys an urban environment from another era, providing insight into how public spaces were designed in Buxton during this time period.

The image depicts a vintage scene featuring a steam train in motion, traveling through a narrow valley. The locomotive is emitting smoke as it climbs along the tracks that wind alongside rocky cliffs on one side and greenery and trees on another. A small stream or waterway meanders parallel to the railway track below. The photograph has an aged quality with sepia tones typical of old postcards, suggesting its historical nature from around 1890-1900. Notable features include the natural landscape surrounding the train tracks and the rustic charm evoked by the steam locomotive's presence in a rural setting.

Buxton, the gardens, Derbyshire, England between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of the British Isles England Derbyshire

#Buxton #Derbyshire #England #photography #historicalPhotos #photochrom

loc.gov/pictures/item/20026966

The image depicts a serene landscape with an elongated canal that meanders through lush, greenery. A stone waterfall cascades over small barriers within the waterway, creating a series of white foamy pools below. The foreground shows dense shrubbery and foliage on both sides of the path leading toward a red-brick bridge in the distance, which arches elegantly over another part of the canal. On either side of the scene, well-maintained lawns with scattered trees create a tranquil atmosphere. In one area to the right, there's an open bench near a tree trunk where visitors might sit and enjoy the view. The overall lighting suggests it is daylight, casting soft shadows on the landscape elements. Notable features include intricate water flow patterns over rocks that contribute to both aesthetic appeal and functional diversion of waters within this garden setting.

I'd like to feel sorry for these people that are losing their homes. But it looks like they voted against their own self-interests in 2016, 2020, and 2024. If you vote for the party that doesn't believe in despite all the evidence, then you should happily believe that that's not really your house going into the ocean.

From NC’s Weather Authority on FB: Overnight, due to high surf, a sixth home collapsed in 24 hours on Hatteras Island in Buxton at the end of Tower Circle Road. The beach in the Buxton area is dangerous, so please avoid it. The beach in Buxton remains closed to the public due to piles of hazardous debris. Additional home collapses are likely in Buxton and potentially Rodanthe this afternoon as we approach high tide due to additional coastal flooding expected.
