_The Evening Post_, 20 September 1924:
CARS IN WELLINGTON
The register of cars completed by the #Wellington City Council of motor vehicles licensed under the Hutt Road Act shows some interesting particulars. The number of cars is 3060 of 167 different makes, of which the #Ford leads the list with 688, #Dodge 343, #Buick 281, #Overland 201, #Chevrolet 185, and #Essex 101, coming next in order of cars over a hundred in number of one make. The first British car to figure on the list is the #Austin with 76, after three other American makes.โฆ
โฆ Fords head the list again in motor delivery vans with 433, but British motor wagons are supremeโฆ
The total number of registrations is :โMotor-cars 3060 ; delivery vans 648 ; motor wagons 204 ; motor-cycles 1039 ; total 4951.
The combined registers of Wellington City, Hutt Borough, Makara County Council and Hutt County Council contain about 10,000 registrations. The registers are either very inaccurate or a large number of owners are evading the new Act, comments โThe Radiator.โ
