So long only mist an clouds...

today's Picture is the famous Crab Nebula, my best i9mage of it so far! 5 hours of collecting photons in two nights where i hat to struggle with 80% humidity and -5°C

Here is the result 😍

Messier 1, also known as the #CrabNebula, is a #supernova remnant located in the constellation #Taurus, approximately 6,500 light-years away from Earth. The object reaches its annual culmination at astronomical midnight around December 16th.

That's No Moon!

Well, in this case it is. Back in 2003, #Saturn's moon Titan passed in front of the #CrabNebula. Chandra was on the spot, catching the transit as it happened. Astronomers were able to see the shadow cast by Titan, and used the size of that shadow to measure the extent of Titan's atmosphere.

A great result, demonstrating the power of the Dark Side!

The Crab Nebula. An oval nebula with complex structure against a black background. On the nebula’s exterior, particularly at the top left and bottom left, lie curtains of glowing red and orange fluffy material. Its interior shell shows large-scale loops of mottled filaments of yellow-white and green, studded with clumps and knots. Translucent thin ribbons of smoky white lie within the remnant’s interior, brightest toward its center. The white material follows different directions throughout, including sometimes sharply curving away from certain regions within the remnant. A faint, wispy ring of white material encircles the very center of the nebula. Around and within the supernova remnant are many points of blue, red, and yellow light.
