Every once in a while I stumble across ongoing research on the ~mysterious~ #fairy #circles appearing in #drylands all over the world (much more commonly than originally thought -> Guirado et al. PNAS 2023 https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2304032120). Almost as fascinating as the phenomenon itself I find the absolute shitshow happening in the background: Are those regular bare soil circles caused by a Turing instability / self-organized pattern formation or by belowground termite activity?
