“This is not a whodunit. This is a why-dunit,” said Kevin Little, one of Rosenberg’s lawyers, during his opening statement.

He said Rosenberg, who has been charged with 3 misdemeanors & felony conspiracy, investigated the plant for 2 months before taking the birds & consulted a veterinarian who was concerned about images that appeared to show animals being boiled alive. Chris Carraway, her other atty, said in a statement that this “was a rescue, not a crime.”

#Trump’s sweeping tax-&-spending #law expanded safety nets for large commodity crop operations [#FactoryFarms], such as corn & soybeans, for feed & biofuels.

But #nutrition & #LocalFood programs #fruit & #vegetable growers depend on were slashed, & his #trade policies chilled demand from top export partners, according to government data & academic researchers.

The masses need to eat, of course! But, the within is HORRIFIC & truly HeartBreaking!! Even if people aren't ready yet, to go Vegan ~ at least eating Less Meat or going Vegetarian, are steps in the right direction to help lessen the number of animals who are suffering🐔

How the Farm Industry Spied on Animal Rights Activists and Pushed the FBI to Treat Them as Bioterrorists

For years, a powerful ‘Big Ag’ trade group served up information on activists to the FBI. Records reveal a decade-long effort to see the animal rights movement labeled a “bioterrorism” threat.

Just went out to walk Watson and can smell the gross Tyson chicken houses down the street. I hope the Trump economy devastates the industrial meat industry that destroys rural communities. Sorry not sorry. #FactoryFarms

River Action wins court ruling that #chicken megafarms will have to treat their manure as industrial waste - not only will #factoryfarms in the catchment of the River Wye now face controls of their pollution of soil/rivers, but livestock operations producing manure across the #UK will now need to take responsibility for disposing of their waste in a lawful way.

A huge legal precedent in the fight against #livestock polluting soil and rivers!

Something I notice in this report (and in most others on the subjecti) is that there is almost no mention of the role of factory farms in the the spread of H5N1. While these large operations may provide economies of scale, they also increase risks to animal and human health.

Our current commercial hybrids require petrochemical fertilizers & industrial tech to make work, so basically, they're useless for the reality that's coming. Peak oil, phosphorus, and resource depletion in general, as well as the climate collapse, will all but wipe out that kind of farming.

Svalbard’s Global Seed Vault Banks Biodiversity and Sprouts Controversy

The Arctic facility is the world’s largest safeguard for seeds—and fertile ground for critics and conspiracy theories.

The controversy sprouting at a global seed vault:
The Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway is the world's must famous backup site for seeds that are more precious than data. Unassuming as the facility might seem, however, it's been politically controversial since it opened in 2008. It is the most visible site in a global agricultural research network that supported the Green Revolution: an effort to introduce high-yielding seeds to developing nations in the mid-20th century. This saved millions of people from starvation, but it shifted agriculture in a technology intensive direction - and the Global Seed Vault a lightening rod for critiques of that effort and its long term impacts.

Two-thirds of the world’s food comes today from just nine plants: sugar cane, maize (corn), rice, wheat, potatoes, soybeans, oil-palm fruit, sugar beet, and cassava. In the past, farmers grew tens of thousands of crop varieties around the world. This biodiversity protected agriculture from crop losses caused by plant diseases and climate change.
