We had the honor of inspecting, tearing down, and cleaning up a Fairlight CMI! Someone in Colorado happened to find one for sale in Greensboro, and we were the local intermediary to help it safely along its journey. Unfortunately we weren't able to locate an appropriate monitor to actually get it up and usable, but based on our exam of the innards and brief testing, we believe it's all working, including the 8" floppy drives!

Only just taken in that Blackmagic Design (Australian manufacturer of cinema cameras) bought Fairlight (Australian makers of iconic sampling instrument that defined a lot of pop music in the 80s and latterly makers of computerised music mixing hardware and software) back in 2016. Got my finger on the river of news me eh?

Seeing this very segment as a kid is the reason I grew up obsessed with audio sampling in general and that synthesizer in particular. It's also how, around 1200 miles away, little @gilahava704 learned what an onomatopoeia is.
