I think I worked out the last snag on my new GPU (which is attached to my living room TV for gaming).
Apparently this "FreeSync Color Accuracy" setting was preventing me from enabling HDR & FreeSync at the same time on my Hisense U7 TV. It's all fixed now with that setting disabled. (It seems that this setting may be an RDNA4-only thing, though...)
So somehow variable refresh rate/FreeSync is no longer working for me for borderless games? It worked perfectly until a few days ago and now it just refuses to comply. I can see from my monitor overlay that it works fine for fullscreen games, but as soon as I switch to bordlerless the refresh rate stays at a fixed 144 and the games become choppy during frame drops.
This is on Windows 11 with a FreeSync Monitor, Nvidia 4070ti Super and the most recent driver. G-Sync Compatible is enabled for both fullscreen and windowed and all the windows 11 optimizations are on...
I'm used to shit breaking randomly on Linux, I thought i was safe from that on Windows. Guess not.

Das erste Jahr, an dem ich endlich mal ein VRRS verwenden kann.
Bisher hatte ich immer inkompatible Grafikkarten <-> Monitor Kombinationen.
Jetzt mit der neuen #AMD Karte im Windows PC kann ich endlich #FreeSync verwenden.
Und es ist einfach klasse!
Die 40fps fühlen sich butterweich an.
So was hatte ich sonst nur ab 60fps.
Kraaaas!
Und das ist leider auch ein Grund, der gegen #Gaming unter #Linux spricht. Da geht das einfach gar nicht.
I don't like #AMD requiring 144Hz for #FreeSync certification. It feels like a too bold of a move.
Screen tearing is less noticeable on high refresh rigs, already! The greatest benefit exists between ~40-80Hz / FPS.
In the low refresh domain, screen tearing is more obvious, because the visual difference is greater.
When a high refresh screen tears, the "diff" is only slight - NON-top-spec rigs tear visually more pronounced - i consider FreeSync most beneficial on low-end / mid-range rigs.
