There is been an orange tree in my greenhouse that I have ignored for 20 years. It fruited this year. I have no idea how this worked.

Some years ago I found a pomegranate tree beaten into submission as a hedge so I took a cutting.
Rooted it in a pot then transplanted it into the ground in #Riviersonderend [River without End] and it sat stunned for two years then realised that there were no more restrictions on growth and has now started producing fruit despite the 35°C heat.
On December 16, 2025, a photograph of the "Dolgo" crabapple in bloom on April 9, 2025. It bears an abundant crop of red-fleshed and red-skinned oblong fruit. It is also a preferred pollinator tree for the apple tree variety I requested for my birthday. It should arrive bareroot - soon.

We picked most of the Hachiya persimmons today. A couple of big bully grackles started thrashing through the branches and tearing at the fruit. I've never seen them here in our part of the Willamette Valley before. We left the top most fruits, but the small resident birds who usually feed on them in late December will find a bare cupboard.

This is a young Dolgo crabapple tree. I highly recommend for spring bloom, summer fruit, and fall color. It makes delicious rosy red crabapple jelly. I flavored these small jars with fresh lavender.

Take a good look at my little plum... 🌱
It's the only one I got ♪
Not much of a red plum.
I never seem to get a lot.

(Produced only one good plum in last 3 years)
Gardener hivemind: Re: Fruit trees
I planted two 2-year-old Bartlett pear trees a year ago to revive our orchard. One didn’t survive - our tree guy says it was probably root-bound in the pot from the grower. The other was gorgeous and healthy, leafed out and growing until a porcupine stripped it naked overnight this August. It broke my heart because it had one wee pear on it! Branches were broken from the beast crawling all over it, all the leaves stripped off, and nothing green left.
Question: Is there anything I can do to help it recover? I am watering it every two weeks as the summer has been brutally dry, and I give it liquid seaweed/fish fertilizer once a month. It’s mulched with shredded bark mulch, but clear right beside the trunk.
The porcupine also stripped a 40-year-old Bosc pear tree, and two hardy cherry trees. It reminds me of what is happening to the good things in the world that people spent decades building, only to be hollowed out almost overnight by careless, selfish people…
Anyway…trees. Any advice is helpful.
My tomarilo dwarf tree (also known as tree) is starting to produce fruit I have not been expecting it since it's supposed to take 3 years before it starts to produce fruit if you grow it from seed. But I guess this tropical plant loves my yard
I don't think the fruit will be ripened before snow, but hopefully it will. I am very excited to try it. It's supposed to have tangy and sweet, with a complex flavor, and may be compared to mix of kiwi, tomato, guava and passion fruit

P.s. sorry for the not in focus picture. I was just too excited and it was way too hot outside for me to try and get more pictures 🫠

Woah! It's not often you get to see fig seeds developing.
#solarpunk achievement: just exchanged 1/2kg of our tomatoes for 1kg of our neighbours plums from their over laden tree.
so not long after we moved here a neighbour offered plants for the digging from his yard because they were going to gut the house and lawn and rebuild everything
i picked up a few things including a little ornamental plum
"don't worry, it's just ornamental, it doesn't fruit"
not for him maybe
normally the raccoons get them all but this year i guess they're out of fashion, so on a whim i grabbed one and it's
FUCKING DELICIOUS ACTUALLY
apparently they don't change colour as they ripen, they're still green when ripe but
dang
tasty
The cherry #plum haul. Less than yesterday (harder to reach), but they DO fall off at the slightest touch..
*Impossible* not to accidentally shake the branches, causing a plum deluge (mostly into the bramble thicket underneath!)
#TGIF Just before light rain started, we had a yard time. My fig tree, for the first time since it was planted some 14 years ago, bore fruits to an edible stage. Figs always fell while they were green. Not my favorite fruit, but I ate two and pretty good. I could see birds have eaten some.
Tired, and so is Kengo (from what?).
Have a good evening and a great weekend, everyone.
