@talktech
Congrats! 🎉 I used to run a self-hosted #GitLab instance as well—it's a powerful tool, no doubt! But over time, I found it a bit heavy for me (resource-wise and maintenance). I switched to Forgejo—it's lighter, faster, and fits my dev needs much better. Loving the simplicity and performance.

My self-hosted #GitLab Git server running!

#HomeLab #Docker

The image shows a web interface for managing projects, likely from a software development platform. The interface is dark-themed with a navigation menu on the left side, labeled "Your work," and options such as "Projects," "Groups," "Issues," "Merge requests," "To-Do List," "Stickers," "Snippets," and "Activity." The main section of the page is titled "Projects" and includes a search bar with a filter dropdown set to "Contributed." Below the search bar, there are three project entries, each with a name, a visibility icon, and a creation timestamp. The projects are associated with the user "Vincent Wilcox" and are named "MastoCloud," "PrestoNowplaying," and "PrestoNowPlayingServer." The timestamps indicate that the projects were created recently, with the most recent one being created 40 minutes ago. A "New project" button is visible in the top right corner, and there is a "Explore projects" link next to it.

As I have been looking into all the things I can self host - I took a look into #GitLab to see if I can host my own Git Repo for all my code.

Well, thanks to the world of #Docker I have a running GitLabCE container and have already started importing my GitHub repos.

🚀 Behold, the groundbreaking "Cpparinfer," where someone decided ++ wasn't complicated enough and needed a sprinkle of magic. 🤯 With a whopping 68 commits, this marvel is sure to revolutionize... absolutely nothing! 😂

Do I know anyone working at #Gitlab? I recently apply for a backend position and was rejected.

I'm fine with that (it's life) but I'm curious to have some reasons because I believe that I match the expectations

Ratestunde!

Hint: `::1` ist's nicht.

Okay I have made my #Gitlab repositories in a very cursed way somehow. I wanted to migrate away from Github. So I used their migrator, and it or I apparently made an organization called `jpandersondev` to put them into. Of course I attempted to rename this after my user name (`keldin-coding`) because I assumed these were my personal projects. This should've been my first clue things were not how I expected. It's an Organization. My personal projects are in a separate place. Of course these are at the URI slug `keldin-coding`.

I don't even know how I would begin to resolve this, but presumably I should just shove the two random things I made as personal projects into the personal organization I have since those are separate. Even if just for consistency and simplicity.

(1/2) It's very good to report #bugs in #FOSS projects. Services like #github, #gitlab, #codeberg and so forth makes it easy to do so without creating a new account for each report.

My recommendations:

- be polite - people are spending their spare time to help you

- explain it thorough: exact steps to reproduce, difference between actual result and expected result, mention exact version numbers, surrounding environments with their versions, background stories (maybe in an extra section at the end), ...

Fun fact: many(!) of my #bugreports get aborted during that phase because while explaining it properly, I did find out where my mistake was. Maybe improve the documentation afterwards.

Sometimes it really does help if a lot of people comment. The #ActivityPub issue was reopened by #Gitlab:

Thank you #GitLab, for responding positively to community feedback.

The work item “Support #ActivityPub for GitLab”, which after years of hard-earned progress was abruptly closed “as our current focus isn't in this area”, attracted great clamour from people who want a #federated GitLab.

That item has now been re-opened with a well considered comment.

A hopeful move away from the #WalledGarden and back on track to joining the #Fediverse.

We are currently experiencing severe issues with our GitHub Actions where jobs don't start. We've reached out to GitHub support.

If we received no satisfactory solution, we'll begin migrating to GitLab.

This will be a temporary home while we find solutions for GitHub Actions.

Crisis averted, #GitLab reopened the epic on #ActivityPub / #ForgeFed implementation. :)

They made it clear, though, that they're not going to do it themselves in any foreseeable future, their "current focus isn't in this area", so it's up to the community to implement it. As I mentioned in the issue, I won't be able to come back to it until I'm done bootstraping the business I'm working on, so anyone who wants to see it done faster should feel free to jump in.

Maar:
- Programma of Netwerk bestaat niet meer als dusdaning
- Een tijdelijk initiatief kan niet structureel een repository onderhouden
- Bij Microsoft en liever minder vendor-lockin dan meer (because reasons).
