When I opened the laptop today, I was greeted with a tab of gnu.org/gnu/thegnuproject.html that I didn't knowingly open? O.o

I suspect I might have accidentally hit some obscure shortcut in #Emacs (because of courses Emacs would ship a shortcut to open that page).

People of Emacs and Org Mode:
Are there any packages to manage a project? I have projectile, but that's more for coding. I mean like a house move or fence build kinda project: something that has multiple todos and will take a protracted amount of time.

Failing any specific package for that, what about a org template for said project?

Thinking of publishing a paper about #Schemacs at ICFP/SPLASH 2025

…except there is not much in the way of original research. But I have received a lot of positive feedback about my project from the Scheme and Emacs community. So let me ask the Scheme/Emacs fediverse: if you would be interested in using or contributing to a Scheme-based Emacs that is mostly backward-compatible with #GNUEmacs , what is it about this prospect that is most interesting to you?

Personally, I live inside of Emacs and program most of my personal workflows in Emacs Lisp, though I feel that Scheme is a more interesting and fun language to use when compared to other #Lisp-family languages. So I would just like to be able to use Scheme as the language in which I program all of my personal workflows. Also I am curious if it is possible to write a large application in #R7RS Scheme such that it runs on many different Scheme implementations.

So does anyone else agree, or are there other things about a prospective Scheme-based Emacs that interest you that might be worth mentioning to a the audience of the Scheme-related chapters of the ICFP?

I was talking with William Byrd, who is one of the conference organizers of ICFP/SPLASH this year, and he says the committee could possibly accept anything of interest to the Scheme community, for example experience reports and “position papers” (helping others understand an opinion or philosophy on the topic). And they would judge these papers on different criteria than a paper about novel scientific research.

Anyone feel free to comment, but I am going to ping a few people in particular who seem to have opinions on this, like @dougmerritt @jameshowell @david_megginson @tusharhero @arialdo @lispwitch @cwebber @dpk and also @PaniczGodek who published on GRASP at this conference last year, if I recall correctly.

Jeez, I hate composing text in web browsers.

Apart from being generally terrible to edit on (mostly the fault of websites as well of course), they're so damned flaky.

I just composed a long and detailed technical reply to help someone on Youtube (yeah, I know), and in an instant the browser vanished and deleted all my work.

I must remember to compose things in GNU Emacs (which is what I try to do). The web really is a bit crap for these things.

Ogni tanto lo ricondivido! SystemCrafters merita

The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Emacs

This video is intended for people who have used other code editors or IDEs before and are curious to try out Emacs! The goal is to teach you everything you need to know to get started with Emacs and use it for basic editing tasks. Once you get comfortable with the basics, check out the other Emacs video series that I've created to learn a whole lot more!

I have been working on a native document reader for #GNUEmacs. In this process I learned a lot regarding how Emacs handles Dynamic Modules, so I wrote a blogpost to share that knowledge:

A helemese po updatu brew jsme zjistil že Emacs se upgradoval z 29.4.1 na 30.1. To potěší 👍🙂

I have a fairly large mug collection and one of the things that make Mondays more palatable is picking my mug for the week. I thought it might be fun to start posting my pick of the week #MugShotMonday 😀

To celebrate the release of #GNUEmacs 30.1, we're going with the #Emacs mug this week 🎉

right now, I'm drafting a game analysis to publish on my gemlog, as usual. The point is that something as mundane as this can be done easily with your $EDITOR, whether #Vim or #GNUEmacs (I use the latter with Org mode for notes as you see).If you aren't using it for everything, you should. It’s a powerful tool, and part of hacker culture. Also, anyone claiming to be a hacker but not using Vim,GNU/Emacs is a #lammer GUI IDEs like Visual Studio are not just evil, they suck and make you a lammer.

A GNU/Linux terminal that shows GNU/Emacs running in Org mode:

Full Analysis of Who's Lila?
Who's Lila? is an indie graphic adventure that pushes the boundaries of psychological and metaphysical themes, all while delivering a unique, ditherpunk visual experience. Created by Russian developer Garage Heathen, the game delves into topics like tulpas, Jungian psychology, surrealism, and esotericism. Its themes may evoke unsettling moments for some, but the experience is far more nuanced and cerebral, with a focus on self-expression, identity, and existential questions. If any of this topics resonate with you, you will probably love this game, as there is no other game like this one.

I was tired of having to rely on a browser for fetching torrents from torrents-csv.com so I sat down for a few hours and put together an Emacs front-end for it. It is very minimal and all it does is get the magnet for a selected torrent, but it's one step away from the browser :)

Soon I'll also add the functionality to have a magnet appended to download within Emacs, using Stefan Kangas' mentor package.

I eventually want to have a general torrent search engine inside Emacs but for that I need a better way than relying on fishy crawlers, I'd probably self-host bitmagnet.io. But that'll be in the future.

@floppy

Just organise your init file. Mine is done with an Org file, using Org babel. Lots of sub-trees and lots of comments and descriptions.

Simply remove/disable what you don't need.

My init file is not perfectly organised, but I can easily see what and where things are.

@thek3nger when you will feel willing, I would love to share my experience with #gnuemacs

It was not easy and I get angry many times; I had many false starts. A little more everytime I become more and more used to it and it pays me back everyday.

No proselitism, just a kind suggests 🙂

Happy hacking!

This is interesting, divined from posts here and there ... org-anniversary.

I don't see why not. I just put in a date in 1966, and there it is in my org-mode agenda.

@nixCraft GNU , because Vi/Vim don't do what I want. GNU Emacs and Vi/Vim are really not comparable programmes.
