Okay #homelabber folks. I'm running ethernet to my office and I can either have one or two drops at the wall.
My Orbi AP will be moving upstairs to the office, sharing space with my gaming PC, work laptop, and various tinkering projects/raspberry pis.
The AP needs multiple VLANs for the various SSIDs, while the computer systems are typically on one VLAN.
There's no shortage of port density on my core switch, and currently everything is running CAT6/1 Gbps (aside from my Ceph cluster which is backed by SFP+ 10Gbps).
Regardless of either option, I'll be digging out a managed 5 port switch for use upstairs.

Over the last couple of days, I wrote a few scripts tosecurely run, encrypt and backup psql dumps to SFTP-providing servers.

I really would appreciate feedback :)
I added a new subpage to my website:
Story of my homelab.
It's meant to be a history of all the iterations my homelab went through since 2019. It's not a blog post as I plan to update it with every new upgrade of my server(s).
Maybe other homelabbing bloggers will also create such pages? That would be super cool to exchange our stories :3
Hey #fediverse! 🚀 We need your magic to help get a #mailcow widget added to the #homepage #dashboard. We're stuck at 5 votes and need 10+ for it to get merged. 🙏
Surely more than a handful of #homelabber use both Homepage and @doncow, right? Or maybe you just haven't seen this yet! 😅
If you’re up for it, drop a thumbs up to support the vote. Your help would mean a lot! 🙌 Thanks in advance! 💙

Being a homelabber is convincing your wife that you have to go to Best Buy on a Sunday to buy a hard drive because one of the drives faulted in your NAS. Yes it’s an emergency. And yes I’m replacing it on the kitchen table.
Keep getting tx hang
errors on #VMware #ESXi with my #Kubernetes cluster nodes (likely due to a busy ingress?). So fucking tempted to migrate to #Proxmox, but 1) how would I be able to retain my existing servers (half of which are pretty critical) and 2) idk if it would even be a fix for this specific issue.
#Homelabber (s) with experience with both for their #homelab (s), feel free to chime in for any differences between the two - I'm also interested in how compatible Proxmox is with general desktop hardware. My ESXi based server uses pretty much all off the shelf desktop parts (Ryzen 7 1700, B450, etc.) and it's been serving me well, tho I did have to customise the installer ISO and add some drivers for the SATA ports and NIC.
As a #homelabber, if anyone asked me for a must-have self-hosted service, I'd recommend #Vaultwarden in a heartbeat. It's seriously awesome!
As a #homelabber, it's difficult to choose a server, gotta balance server performance and power consumption.

The "joys" of being an #homelabber in #Italy (see alt text for a rough translation).
Yesterday I received a 1U patch panel that takes keystone jacks to use in my #HomeLab. After mounting it in my rack, I’m pretty stoked about the tidiness this is going to enable. This one panel will let me cleanly manage Ethernet cables right along side the HDMI, USB C, & USB A cables going to a #RaspberryPi running #HomeAssistant. I’m even able to use a spot in the same panel for the SC/APC fiber cable going to my AT&T modem.
Why does #HP have to be so #authoritarian about firmware?
I've got a DL80Gen9 and a couple of Aruba switches that I can't download firmware for.
The Aruba switches, because I don't want to use my work email for personal things, and the DL80 because HP won't let you download firmware updates for ANYTHING if it's not under a #support #contract.
It's almost like HP wants the internet to be full of botnets. I don't understand why a company would deny a #homelab owner the ability to update firmware in order to keep things safe and up to date. #Hewlett_Packard_Enterprise cannot possibly be THAT hungry for cash that they need to charge a #homelabber THOUSANDS of DOLLARS just to #download an .iso or a #firmware package.
Seriously #hewlett_packard ... WTELF?
Ok. Rant over.
This list is a short one for the techies doing #Homelab stuff and #Selfhosting. I've either had the pleasure of talking to these fine people recently or have seen good content from them! Only a quick list, sorry if I missed you this time! Alphabetical order.
