Nach unten ein blau beleuchtetes ovales Loch im Boden durch das im Stockwerk darunter ein weiteres Loch und noch ein Stockwerk darunter ein Loch in den Sternenhimmel zu sehen ist. Direkt nach vorne steht ein Mensch, der nach unten schaut. Nach oben ist ein rot-rosa Oval zu sehen. Insgesamt eher kühle, künstliche Farben.

wieder ein vertikales 200-Grad-Panorama. Diesmal aus dem Stockwerk darunter. Diesmal in mint-grün beleuchtetes, ovales Loch nach unten. Unten dann das Loch in den Sternenhimmel über Australien. Oben ein Loch, durch das ein Loch in den Bremer Himmel blau zu sehen ist.

Blick nach unten durch nur ein -diesmal gelb-bräunlich beleuchtetes Nachthimmelloch in Australien.

Sehr rot von ganz oben mit Füßen. So weit oben, daß der Sternenhimmel auf der anderen Seite der Erde nicht zu sehen ist.

Open Sky – James Turrells erloschener Vulkan Roden Crater

Ein Stipendium der Guggenheim Stiftung investierte der Lichtkünstler James Turrell 1974 in Kerosin und flog mit seinem Flugzeug 700 Stunden über die Weite des amerikanischen Westens, bis er Roden Crater entdeckte: einen erloschenen Vulkan auf dem Gelände einer 156 Quadratmeilen großen Rinderranch in Arizonas Painted Desert. Seit bald 40 Jahren baut James Turrell dessen Inneres zu einem Himmelobservatorium aus; Roden Crater ist sein Lebenswerk. Visionäre Größe und Bodenständigkeit liegen bei dem Quäkersohn dicht beieinander. Der Rinderfarmer und Pilot zitiert gern Meister Eckhart: Totus intus – totus deforis. Außen und innen sind eins. Ihn interessiere der Punkt, sagte Turrell einmal, „an dem imaginatives Sehen und äußeres Sehen zusammenfallen, wo es schwierig wird, zwischen dem Sehen von innen und dem Sehen von außen zu unterscheiden.“

Even though the warm spring weather escaped me and I was quite tired after a month's travel, #Berlin was great. Mostly, I spent my time dog-sitting, napping and telling bad jokes to my host (and dog), but some art was involved, too. The main thing being #JamesTurrell's Luther's Light at Dorotheenstadt cemetery's chapel.

Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar heeft een Skyspace - een soort olichtobservatieruimte - van James Turrell. Fantastisch.
Ons nieuwe huis heeft maar liefst vier heldere lichtkoepels. Nu heb ik dezelfde ervaring als ik op de wc zit!

A mound sits surrounded by water. A path leads towards it slowly descending below the level of the water. Eucalyptus trees surround the water. On top of the mound short grass protects what is inside. A hint of a small dome can be seen on top of the mound. Water is delicately flowing creating a peaceful atmosphere.
