Seems like progress is being made through the Keep Android Open campaign. Google is saying that now there will be a way to still sideload applications without being a part of their verification program, but they want to make it harder.

Googles Ansinnen, nur verifizierte Apps zum "Sideloading" - aka Installation von Apps - zuzulassen, schlug heftige Wellen und löste einen Proteststurm (Keep Android Open!) aus. Inzwischen schwächte Google die ursprünglichen Pläne ab und möchte das Installieren nicht verifizierter Apps für PoweUser:innen mit einigen "Sicherheitsvorkehrungen" ermöglichen.

Man kann nicht oft genug davor warnen, dass Google/Alphabet aus Gründen der Gewinnoptimierung die Android-Welt genau vernagelt wie Apple. Relevante Teile der digitalen Welt stehen nun mal nur auf diesen beiden Plattformen zur Verfügung. Was an sich schön schlimm genug ist.
