I'll present Windows on Arm on QEMU/KVM: Challenges and Solutions at #kvmforum 2025
pretalx.com/kvm-forum-2025/talk/review/CY3AUX7BLBNKUWFWJKZXFCLXB
It will be about my journey to run a Windows VM on #asahilinux. Some changes are still work in progress and not upstreamed so I need to spend some time to complete them...

I've been reminded the #cfp for #kvmforum is out: kvm-forum.qemu.org/2025/ entries close on the 0th of June. I'm thinking possibly implementing a new #QEMU #TCG CPU as an angle on the single binary work but I'm wondering what the MVP might look like. Do I have the time? #kvmforum2025

@jwildeboer its a tricky one. I love being full time #WFH but I appreciate it wouldn't have been the best for me earlier in my career both from a personal maturity point of view as well as social interaction. I really look forward to our regular in-person meetups (2 a year with the rest of #linaro + my team at #kvmforum). I certainly sit in a position of privilege now I'm a senior greybeard and starting a fully remote job as a junior engineer could be quite isolating.

And the #redhat media folks have been working fast, the talk is now available on youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=udS9DreyO0 #kvmforum #kvmforum2024

My work was mentioned in the QEMU Keynote speech today in KVM Forum, Brno, Czech Republic, by lead developer/maintainer Paolo Bonzini at #redhat. Among other great(er) new QEMU things my small contributions got a dedicated slide:

#rust #rustlang #qemu #kvm #kvmforum2024 #kvmforum #arm #arm64 #Linaro

Slide from a conference presentation. The speaker, Paolo Bonzini, is shown at the right. The verbatim content of the slide follows:

Rust-y QEMU?

- “[RFC PATCH v1 0/6] Implement ARM PLO11 in Rust” (June 2024)

- Lots of discussion, but a generally positive attitude
- No one seems to be scared of learning (more) Rust
- Technical debt is a concern
- Preserve expectations while tipping into a completely different ecosystem
- Merge early, iterate later

Thanks to some nice people from AMD I met at KVM Forum, I learned that my AMD laptop actually supports CET shadow stacks. I wrote about how to get them working on Linux: x86.lol/generic/2024/09/23/use #linux #cet #rop #infosec #kvmforum

It was heartening to hear an observer at the #rust for #qemu bof at #kvmforum say we seemed a lot more chill about its introduction than the kernel guys. The main conclusion seemed to be that we should publish a roadmap to make our desire to migrate is a genuine desire rather than an experiment. Aside from device models there is interest in migrating block, virto and #softfloat subsystems to rust.

I'm still saddened by all the work that goes into supporting TDX instead of building lasting trusted computing for x86. See my earlier rants: x86.lol/generic/2023/06/28/int #kvmforum #kvm #linux #tdx

Anyone at KVM Forum in Brno and wants to meet for dinner? Happy to chat about KVM, Rust, NixOS, API design, ... #kvmforum #brno

A lot of train travel today to get me in striking distance of Stansted for tomorrow's flight to Brno and #kvmforum #kvmforum2024. Only a day left to tweak and practice my talk.

I'll give two presentations in #kvmforum 2024; one as the main speaker and the other as a co-speaker. They will discuss microarchitecture research and networking, which are two of the three areas I'm working on with QEMU (the other is Apple Silicon support on Asahi Linux and macOS).

The #cfp for #kvmforum has gone out. This is a conference where you will find a lot of #qemu hackers: qemu.org/2023/03/08/kvm-forum-

My #QEMU status report from #kvmforum is now available via the tubes: youtu.be/xriU_uPYizM?t=745

Nice to see fellow #linaro engineer Viresh Kumar getting a shout out at the #kvmforum #virtio talk for his work on #gpio.

#kvmforum starts today. Getting from the conference hotel to the venue was super easy. Let's hope the #wifi holds out during the keynotes ;-)

I see the photo they have used for the #kvmforum page is the audience laughing at a joke on my keynote slide. It has aged better than Google+ did.

My #QEMU talk about plugins (youtube.com/watch?v=wxIF0dvGDu) has gone up on the #kvmforum #youtube channel. I think I was moving around too much to keep the autofocus on the camera happy but the slides and speech are clear.
