#lvfs

We dropped the side in github.com/fwupd/fwupd/commit/ -- and will stop signing with GPG when we release 2.1.1 in a few weeks time.

I think the only people that will even notice are those using to deploy updates.

Wow, a combination of "lots of people got new hardware as Christmas presents" and "first day back at work, so apply all the firmware updates"... The is running at 3x compared to the last week. :)

So maybe someone on fedi can help me here, but after updating my to 1.17, can no longer normally and freezes and requires a hard power-off each time. I tried some stuff, many suggested fixes I found on the internet and a newer kernel (6.18 instead of 6.17) but nothing worked. So I think it may be a issue.

Thanks! :BlobhajSadReach:

Edit: Solved!

Friday, before the start of the week-end I received the @frameworkcomputer #framework12 laptops for my parents.
They will be installed with #Linux of course.

As they won’t be delivered before some time, I ’m playing a bit with them. One have been installed with #fedora #silverblue, the other one with #aeondesktop.

So far I like what I’ve seen with the #gnome desktop:
* When the screen is rotated, the keyboard is disabled.
* When in tablet mode, the screen orientation follow the device orientation.
* The power draw in sleep mode looks ok.
* BIOS/UEFI update are supported with #lvfs.

But I also have some issues:
* The virtual keyboard in tablet mode, is only in qwerty, even if the system is configured with another layout.
* When the virtual keyboard appears, some windows content is not moved above the keyboard, which might make it difficult to see what one is typing.
* On the Aeon install I had to `sdbootutil --ask-pin update-predictions` after installation to have the #tpm2 unlock working.

@gauteweb, #fwupd og #LVFS er gull. Nesten rart du ikke har oppdaget slikt før nå, for det har vært inne i de fleste distroer lenge 🤓

@hughsie fortjener minst et lastebillass med kudos. 🤗 (@hughsie deserves at least a truckload of kudos.)

This talk presents the current state and future roadmap of #fwupd and #LVFS projects, focusing on technical challenges and opportunities for smaller open-source firmware distributions like Dasharo.
Key points include:
* Recent advancements in firmware update infrastructure
* Upcoming upstream #UEFI Capsule Update support for coreboot and #EDKII
* Call to action in areas where community input, feedback, and funding can influence project direction

Recording this with Josh was a huge amount of fun -- and it was really nice to look back on 10 years+ of and the . Feedback welcome!

PSA: The is now signing with the old GPG and *two* new PKCS#7 keys:

* A new fwupd.org MLDSA-87 PKCS#7 certificate which is signed by a new LVFS 2025 PQ (Post-Quantum) CA.

* A new fwupd.org RSA-2048 PKCS#7 certificate which is signed by the existing LVFS 2017 CA. This was going to expire anyway in 2028-01-16, but it seemed a good idea to reissue it considering we needed to upload a new PQ cert anyway.

#Firmware de @gnome te permite ahora (o yo me acabo de enterar) subir los dispositivos detectados, pero sin firmware subido a #LVFS.

Animarse a subirlo. Que sirva, esperemos, de presión. O algo, je je.

"Linux-Based Lenovo Webcams' Flaw Can Be Remotely Exploited for BadUSB Attacks"

Here's a friendly PSA on keeping your firmware up to date.

For those of us running Linux, see if your distro is taking advantage of which you can find at fwupd.org/ (I am proud to say Red Hat helps to support LVFS).

Disclosure: I do not have one of the affected cameras and cannot confirm that Lenovo has shipped that update through LVFS yet.

Vendors who provide #firmware updates through #LVFS is likely to sell more products.

So it will be interesting to learn which ones will pitch in to fund this amazing service.

omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/08/lvfs-s

What about if it is visible in the GUI, or #fwupdmgt output in the terminal if a vendor sponsors the service?

fwupd.org/lvfs/vendors/ could be made easier for users to find in, including if a device is updateable from there before deciding to buy it.

This is a positive opportunity for everyone!

I've officially launched the Sustainability Plan today -- please see blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2025/0 for all the details.

I’m aware funding open source software is a delicate matter and I certainly do not want to cause anyone worry. We need the LVFS to have strong foundations; it needs to grow, adapt, and be resilient – and it needs vendor support.

I've just deployed a new website container that ports from SQLAlchemy version 1.4.54 to SQLAlchemy version 2.0.41. This was a significant amount of work, with 72 files changed, 1967 insertions and 1665 deletions.

If I've done everything properly, nobody should notice any changes either in behaviour or user interface. If you do spot something that looks wrong, or something that doesn't work like it used to please let me know! Thanks.
