Ho provato ad installare Debian 2.2 sul mio IBM ThinkPad 380E (Pentium MMX, 80 MB di RAM), ma al momento non ho fortuna nel far funzionare né la grafica né l'audio. Piuttosto che reinstallare Windows NT, preferisco utilizzare FreeDOS.

i have moved my wallabag server over to my t60. you stand no chance.
i still haven't achieved t60 enlightenment yet, i have to replace the entire screen assembly including the hinges, as well as the palmrest which is pretty messed up, and the hard drive needs an upgrade. but the battery still holds a charge!
next project is freshrss, i won't be doing nextcloud until i upgrade the ssd.

I brought the #Lenovo #Thinkpad #T430 (that I used before I got the P50 on the right hand side of the photo with the #Filofax and pen case on top) back to the office reformatted it and installed Win11 with Rufus and created a more "minimal" user profile (with fewer directories downloaded from Onedrive and Dropbox) for myself to use with #VCDS (the P50 is bulky when working on the car with limited room inside, it does not sit well on the front seat and is awkward to use, and VCDS doesn't need a particularly large screen.
I will add another user profile so the T430 can also be used as a standby machine in my office (such as when new staff do online training courses)
I have this bad habit of not tightening screws "enough" in fear of over-tightening them and not being able to unscrew them ever again. What ends up happening is that they automatically come off over time, with me losing them way before I realize. The rattling inside was due to three of these ready to fall off, thankfully held by a service panel!
My old #thinkpad T560 is now repurposed as a Debian trixie box, having finally solved the mystery of why the poweroff command never actually turned the power off (IOMMU had to be disabled)

During the FreeBSD install on my Thinkpad, I chose to use ethernet for networking and it was configured successfully.
After first boot into the system, I manually configure the wireless adapter for an additional networking option. Finally, I combine the ethernet and wireless interfaces into a virtual interface to provide failover network capability should one of the interfaces become unavailable.
Bought a new-to-me #Thinkpad recently and got it in the mail yesterday.
The pleasure I got from permanently silencing Windows with a single dd command was priceless. 😄
#Fedora on an AMD Ryzen #ThinkPad and/or #ThinkCentre is really hard to beat for a daily work machine.
Every problem comes with a learning. This #ThinkPad was freezing randomly, and as a part of the diagnosis, I learned about #memtest86+. Since then, I've been running these tests on all my machines. 🤓

We have been wanting new art of her for over 25 years now, as we lost most of her files in a hard drive crash back in 2000. After some back-and-forth, I finally found a video controller that can send signals to this display. Progress!
With performance improvements in #GNOME over the last 2 years, as of GNOME 48 I can say we are mostly on par with "lightweight" desktop environments in terms of responsiveness, on any Intel / AMD hardware from the last 15 years (if you use an nVidia GPU: get a real GPU, you masochist).
I see no real advantage for "light" DEs on #Linux for today's old hardware.

My own PC has an AMD GPU from 2013 + CPU chipset from 2009.
