A sad day at #cthackerspace. Everyone savanging the equipment that has to find a new home because we lost the space.

On a positive note, I scored a long needed band saw and an #makerbot 3D printer. Finally dipping my toes into #resin3dprinting.

I didn't buy a #makerbot way back in the day because:

1. Their demo at #FOSDEM was absolute dogshit
2. Speaking as someone who has been in anti-abuse on the public Internet for roughly 2.5 decades by now, their CEO and founder gave me "run away, keep running" vibes after the first passing encounter
3. Some of the politics that seeped through

PSA: if you are excited about 3d printing and thinking of diving in, go for the Bambulab X1C.
12 years ago I purchased my first 3d printer, the Makerbot Replicator 1 dual extruder. Aligning the 2 nozzles was near impossible. I upgraded the extruder with whosawhatits influential upgrade. I switched to using Sailfish open source firmware. I printed a rig to tram the print bed using a micrometer. I laser cut an enclosure to improve printing ABS. In spite of all these things the printer was unreliable and constantly a challenge. I had hundreds of ideas but spent most of the time trying to get a decent print. Eventually gave up on 3d printing. This past Dec, a decade later, I dove back in with the Bambu X1C. So much better, so much easier. I’m exploding with ideas, I’m printing things I conceived 12 years ago. It’s not perfect, but if you want to make things vs making a printer work, go for the x1c. #3dprinting #makerbot #bambulab #x1c

2017 habe ich mir einen Makerbot 3D Drucker gekauft, für absurdes Geld. Mit viel Gebastel und Glück sind auch brauchbare Dinge rausgekommen. Jetzt mit einem BambuLab A1 in 2024 versteht man die Welt nicht mehr wie einfach es jetzt es sich drucken lässt. #bambulab #3druck #makerbot

#Stratasys uses 10 patents, two of them orginally from #Makerbot (anyone remember?) to sue #Bambulab in two separate US court cases. (stopping usage of Thingiverse in favor or Youmagine in the wake of the #Takerbot scandal. )

Как уважаемая аудитория могла заметить по моим предыдущим постам, купить что-то готовое и рабочее сразу — не таков наш путь, к тому же у меня был уже опыт работы с принтером Tiertime, который позиционировался как plug-and-play, а по факту оказался полигоном по обкатке напильников. «Так зачем же платить больше?» — подумал я и приобрёл комплект компонентов, бывший некогда 3D принтером Makerbot Replicator 2x. Предыдущий хозяин нанёс ему улучшения и причинил апгрейды до состояния нестояния, так что приключение обещало быть увлекательным, зато бюджетным! При запуске этого хозяйства в эксплуатацию пришлось фиксить различные неисправности, начиная с неконтачившего термистора и не заканчивая осью Z, которая выпала вниз целиком, гордо проплавив себе путь сквозь пластиковую опору.

Leider hat er immer mal wieder Probleme, von der SD Karte zu drucken ("I have detected a glitch ..."). Ich hoffe, das liegt an der Karte und nicht am Leser. Neue Karten sind unterwegs.
Der Drucker ist ca 10 Jahre alt und es gibt zahlreiche Anleitungen im Internet um ihn zu optimieren. Hier sehen wir eine verbesserte Führung für das Kabel und das Filament, der Druck hat gut geklappt.
Gestern habe ich noch festgestellt, dass das Druckbett in der Mitte ca 1/2 mm nach unten durchhängt. Es gibt noch viel zu tun.
Die #Softwareunterstützung unter #Linux ist leider nicht sehr gut, ich muss deshalb ab und zu notgedrungen #Windows booten.

Well one good thing about Utilimaker's purchase of Makerbot is that the latest Cura beta supports the Method-X. Look forward to kicking their proprietary print thing to the curb. #3dprinting #makerbot

Spent more time figuring out what the start/end positions meant and calibrating them to allow movement without hitting the case. Definitely grateful to the vid that had the STL file and everything!
