The babies are back live on my YouTube channel again, and we are kind of on fledge watch now. They will start calling the parents and listen to them answer to gain the courage to make it out of the box and into the world. I hope the stream stays stable. #birds #nestwatch

I put the babies back on my youtube livestream. The stream pauses every so often but you can still see how great they look and what they get fed. After they fledge, I will work to improve this stream, I may need a better WiFi extender. Enjoy :) #birds #nestwatch

Alright, this is the final picture from the nest box for now. I haven’t posted the last couple of days because we were dealing with a little sick bay for kids here. 😷

Yesterday, one of the remaining five fledglings already took off. This morning we got to watch the remaining four take flight live. It was really exciting!

It’s a bit sad that it’s over now, but maybe a new pair of tenants will move in again.

Momma Bluebird has been guarding her nest and even spent the night last night, and I thought she was done laying but she added another egg to the clutch today. I think she may do a fifth tomorrow because she is not brooding yet. I decided to name them Dougie and Janey 🤓 #nestwatch

In 2024, after over 15 years of thinking about it, I finally installed a kestrel nesting box on my Lassen County property—and to my delight, a male kestrel moved in this spring!

This image was taken after one of my video stakeouts. He emerged from the birdhouse and perched just long enough for a quick burst—this frame is my favorite.

Though I spotted a female with him in April, I haven't seen her lately. She might be incubating eggs… or maybe she moved on. Either way, the process has been amazing to witness.

A male American kestrel perches on a branch near a nest box mounted in a large pine tree on a wooded 2-acre property in Lassen County, California. After years of seeing kestrels occasionally and finally putting up a nest box in winter 2024–2025, the male appeared in late March. A female was seen with him briefly, but by late May only the male has been visible. He may have been rejected or she could be inside incubating. The image was taken after a video session when the kestrel emerged and paused to look directly at the photographer.

Seems we're down to five again. 😔
At least they are growing every day.

The Northern Mockingbird pair are mostly absent from their nest. I guess the ambient temperature is warm enough that they don’t feel the need to lay on the eggs?
