A sadly forgotten #80s #newwave #artrock band from my old neck of the woods in Boston, Massachusetts.

This was the first of two records these two ladies made, and yes, I said ladies.

Jittery, jagged, and awesome tunes written by Ann Prim and Kearney Kirby, two very talented musicians who named their band after a group of German expressionists from the early 20th century.

“Flatland” absolutely SMOKES, and “Pictures Of The Homeland” has such a cool pocket, courtesy of the band’s awesome rhythm section, Alvan Long and Raphael Gasparello.

Really killer record.
Still have never seen their second one, Work That Dream.

Watched a little bit of the Olympics this weekend (not that easy as there are no replays). Funny thing, beside missing the regular hockey season, it also triggered some memories of music from the 1980s... Went down the rabbit hole of my old tapes. Some really cool early #electronica by the #French #electropop duo "Deux". The song I was searching for was "Felicita", sung in #Italian by Cati and keyboards by Gerard. Really cool minimal drum machine rhythms, early #newwave

The very definition of OBSCURE.
How obscure?

There are zero Wikipedia or established music encyclopedia entries on him. Several tracks by him — including “This Secret Hunger!” and “Why Are You Crying?” — appear in radio show playlists and mixes on NTS Radio, indicating his work has been aired in post-punk / indie / synth-pop contexts over the years, but short of that, not much else.

It seems Mr. Ness was one of those VERY underground artists in the UK whose musical memory is kept alive by rare record enthusiasts and niche radio listings such as #synthpop #newwave #postpunk #leftfield … ALL OVER THE MAP.

I do like this record a great deal. I have NO recollection where or when I found it, just that it was sealed with a $1.99 sticker on it.

Digging into some obscure #newwave #synthpop to wind down my Friday night, which is now Saturday morning. Lol. 😂
Man, time got away from me.

The second of this Scottish band’s three albums, it doesn’t necessarily stick out from the other #synth music of the time, but if you’re overly obsessed with that genre from that time, you’ll dig it.

The best track on here for me is “Out Of Reach”, a super bouncy, synth-o-licious tune that my 16 year old son heard me play in the car the other day, and is now humming around the house.

Not a record for everybody, but definitely for me.
