I just tried to download the Observation and ObsIdentify apps as an alternative to iNaturalist after the latter team's decision to go on with their affair with Google generative AI. [Due to personal circumstances, I did not get the latest updates in the forum debate, so please correct me if something happened. I am the first to say that the issue seems better than it looked like at the beginning, but there still are too many concerns.]
It looks like I can neither download Observation from Aurora store nor use ObsIdentify without turning the Google positioning (i.e., tracking) services on, even if generic positioning is on and "essential" Google trackers are allowed through TrackerControl. Even iNat works a bit without positioning services on. I guess Observation is no better than iNat when it comes to respecting people's right to privacy, then...
