I just tried to download the Observation and ObsIdentify apps as an alternative to iNaturalist after the latter team's decision to go on with their affair with Google generative AI. [Due to personal circumstances, I did not get the latest updates in the forum debate, so please correct me if something happened. I am the first to say that the issue seems better than it looked like at the beginning, but there still are too many concerns.]

It looks like I can neither download Observation from Aurora store nor use ObsIdentify without turning the Google positioning (i.e., tracking) services on, even if generic positioning is on and "essential" Google trackers are allowed through TrackerControl. Even iNat works a bit without positioning services on. I guess Observation is no better than iNat when it comes to respecting people's right to privacy, then...

Aber kennt ihr schon #ObsIdentify? Damit lassen sich wildlebende Arten wie Wildbienen und Hummeln identifizieren. Das Thünen-Institut empfiehlt sie für die aktuelle Hummel-Challenge:

@RolfAE Tolle Aktion. Ich hätte mir allerdings gewünscht, dass eine andere App als das amerikanische iNaturalist nutzbar gewesen wäre. iNaturalist ist durch die erzwungene Anmeldung über Google (die sich mit ein paar Tricks noch umgehen lässt) und die erzwungene Weiterleitung der Daten in die USA nämlich nicht DGSVO-konform. Und somit teurer als z.B. das datensparsame ObsIdentify aus den Niederlanden.

Ook deze rups heeft het vlaggen.
Links parasitaire larven die het lichaam van de rups verlaten hebben en zich ingesponnen hebben naast de inmiddels dode rups - rechts de oorspronkelijke levende rups.

Kan iemand me zeggen van welke nachtvlinder deze rups is? Ik heb geen idee, en #ObsIdentify help me ook niet echt vooruit.
