#org-mode

Finally grokking the utility of `C-c [` / `org-agenda-file-to-front` and `C-c ]` / `org-agenda-remove-file` to manage agenda files rather than my previous habit of "every org file in this directory, recursively."

Now, basically, the tasks in an area or project—sorry, "campaign" or "adventure"—only show up in my agenda when I care about them. Don't need to filter or cancel. Just "I'll get to the Luanti ideas later."

@paninid @foone That's why I made github.com/novoid/Memacs so that my #PKM is automatically extended by most of my service feeds I'm using.

Shouldn't be that hard to add Mastodon and others. Not sure if my Twitter module is still working because I've left that platform years ago.

TIL about org-novelist and… damn.

I am 100% going to give that a try when I finally write a standalone novel. The current books are too interwingled & org-novelist really seems to be designed around a concept of "everything for this book is in this one folder" but in my current situation I'm sharing characters between books with overlapping timelines and locations and all that.

I have released version 2.8 of org-social.el 🥳

I have focused on improving the user experience with real-time notifications, better post readability, and performance enhancements.

- **Real-time Desktop Notifications**: Get instant notifications for mentions, reactions, replies, and boosts via SSE (Server-Sent Events). Optional feature, disabled by default via `org-social-realtime-notifications`
- **Post Preview Length Control**: Long posts now show a "Read more" button (default 400 characters). Configurable with `org-social-post-preview-length` or set to `nil` to disable truncation
- **Improved User Mentions**: `org-social-mention-user` now uses async cache system that loads all users from relay without blocking Emacs. Cache updates automatically and silently after timeline is displayed

## Other improvements

- Bug Fix: Poll voting now works correctly with vfile URLs by using local cache file
- UI Enhancement: Thread view displays full posts without truncation for better readability
- Performance: Timeline navigation optimized to avoid unnecessary feed reloads when switching between buffers

What's this? I just want to play around with org-mode.

I have one #org-mode gripe that comes up every so often. For all the ways I can filter my agenda view, why is filtering by priority not an option?

Yesterday I updated emacs packages and someone changed org-clock-in from C-c C-x C-i to C-c C-x TAB :blobfoxnotlikethis:

But manual says old combination
https://orgmode.org/manual/Clocking-commands.html

How I change it back to
C-c C-x C-i, because I don't understand?

Orgro lets you slide sections to reveal a TODO toggle. However one thing has always bugged me: With a very tall section it's not clear where to put the icon and label.

So here's what I came up with: Floating!

I'm not sure this is a great solution, but I think it's better than before, where the icon and label would simply be off screen if you slid the section at an unfortunate scroll offset.

In Jack Baty's latest (excellent) post, he says:

"Org-mode is [...] essentially useless outside of Emacs"

What is this **outside of Emacs** he mentions? Is this some metaphysical concept I am not aware of?

I wrote up some notes on how i'm using Just and fswatch on my Mac to autocommit my #orgmode files to my repo

gregnewman.io/blog/autocommit-

#emacs

Rejected feature request for #Emacs #OrgMode: markup syntax for small caps.

Yes, I am trying to imitate #Death from #Discworld, why do you ask?

@kickingvegas ad "Import #Markdown to Org with the Clipboard in #Emacs" from yummymelon.com/devnull/import-

I'm using a similar method "my-convert-region-from-markdown-to-orgdown" from github.com/novoid/dot-emacs/bl

Does your method suffer from the same issue which I still have? Converted heading levels are always starting at level 1 and not the heading level of the current sub-tree I'm yanking to.

Therefore, I yank to *scratch* and need to search/replace heading markers to match the levels I currently need ...

I guess here is the #emacsconf youtube of my talk. youtube.com/watch?v=hy5i6Qb6fY #commonLisp #softwareIndividuals

I segue from #emacs #orgmode to emacs #eev (hey, this talk in several hours is on eev by @eduardoochs emacsconf.org/2025/talks/moder )

Contrasting how complex and intractable org's tangle and weave are from a very literal eev style executable log. Then I present and run my #lisp software that when turned on pops an emacs lisp list every 30 seconds and does a sequence of actions therein.

I use a giant #org-mode repisitory to keep myself organized. I synchronize this repisitory between multiple devices using #git because occasionally I'll find myself out without an internet connection and it's useful for merging when they fall out of sync.

To that end, I frequently find myself issuing the command git commit -am stuff, which makes me feel kind of dirty, but it's just the easiest thing to do.

Luckily no one but me will ever see this repisitory.
