I never would expect I see a -style figure in a ... The figure is not horrifying, but it really looks interestingly funny in the context of a textbook.

The textbook is "Introduction to percolation theory" by Dietrich Stauffer.

Fig. 28. Schematic picture for the links (one-dimensional chains), nodes (crossing points of the links) and blobs (dense regions with more than one connection between two points; shown as circular here) of the infinite cluster slightly above the threshold. The distance between the nodes as well as the maximum blob diameter are assumed to be of the order of the correlation length. The thin lines are the dead ends, for clarity only very few of them are shown. Most of the material is in the dead ends, the rest is called the backbone. Most of the backbone mass belongs to blobs.

#500CharAbstracts: @scschmidt describes here what #percolation analysis is and how it is used to cluster data and create wonderful informative maps. It is a useful approach at very different scales. If you are interested, have a look here. #Archaeology 🏺

Aluminum gallium nitride (Al,Ga)N holds promise for efficient deep light emitters but unfortunately current devices suffer from low . We offer an explanation: Our simulations reveal disorder-induced transport in wells. But radiative and non-radiative recombination increase both!

I made these using this tiny geometry nodes setup

if your interested in learning more about this sort of thing then look into percolation theory

theres some really interesting stuff out there about the study of randomly connected graphs

#percolation #procgen #blender #b3d #geometrynodes

a blender geometry nodes setup that creates a grid, splits the edges based on a random boolean, and captures the mesh island index
2023-03-06

and when the pixels are more likely to be connected you end up with one ocean that stretches off into infinity with small islands scattered around

#percolation #procgen #blender #b3d #geometrynodes

an ocean of blue pixels with little clusters dotted around forming small islands
2023-03-06

when the probability of pixels being disconnected is higher then the result is much more chaotic, with many small islands and no large ones

#percolation #procgen #blender #b3d #geometrynodes

a chaotic picture where adjacent pixels are sometimes connected and colored in some fiery shade
2023-03-06

I made this by randomly connecting pixels and coloring the contiguous islands

when there is an equal chance that adjacent pixels are connected or disconnected then you get a fractal-esque pattern like this, where islands of all sizes appear

#percolation #procgen #blender #b3d #geometrynodes

a fractal-esque image where connected pixels are grouped into islands of all sizes and colored with some shade of blue

For my latest project, I programmed a visualisation of #percolation in #processing. Percolation is model from statistical #physics most known for exhibiting a phase transition. #creativecoding
