The pineapple is nearing full size (my hand for scale). It's not ripe yet - we still have to wait a few weeks - but it won't be long now. It takes a pineapple 6-7 months to mature from the time it blooms, and each plant only fruits every other year. We now have three pineapple plants that we've grown from pineapple tops.

My light-skinned hand reaches out to touch the side of a pineapple growing from the center of a pineapple plant. The body of the fruit is still dark purplish green. It will turn green and then yellow as it ripens. The long, narrow green leaves of the plant radiate out from beneath the fruit.

My afternoon rainy day cake is done!

This is my invention from a few years ago called #pinupka. It's a mash-up of a pineapple upside down cake and a fruit crumble. The crumble topping is put down first then the pineapple and cake batter.

Really tasty.

I didn't know such a thing as a spiral pineapple slicer existed until somebody at work told me. Easy peasey and safe. Price about $10.

Sometimes supermarkets will discount whole pineapples down to the low $3 range. I don't think that many people buy them.
