The former Glasgow Corporation Public Baths and Wash House on Tollcross Road in the Parkhead area of Glasgow. Designed by A.B. MacDonald, it was built in 1904. Such public baths and steamies (as the wash houses were known) were once common in Glasgow, especially in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras when few tenements had their own bathrooms or washing facilities.

The remaining facade of the former Whiteinch Public Baths in the west of Glasgow. Designed by the Office of Public Works in an Edwardian Baroque style, it opened in 1926. The Whiteinch Public Baths housed two swimming pools, separate men's and women's baths, and a Turkish bath. It closed in the 1990s, and much of it was demolished in 2008 to make way for flats. However, this central pavilion was retained.

Sculpted signs on the Maryhill public baths and wash house in Glasgow (now the Glasgow Club Maryhill). They were designed by A.B. MacDonald and were opened in 1898. They included thirty-six wash-stalls, two washing machines, a sevent-fice foot long swimming pool, twenty-five private baths for men, and only six private baths for women. They proved exceedingly popular and were visited over 400,000 times in the Summer of 1938 alone.

Corporation Public Baths and Washhouse, Tollcross Road in the Parkhead area of Glasgow. Designed by A.B. McDonald, the City Engineer, and was built, along with the neighbouring public library, in the early 1900s.

I love the idea that you could wash yourself, wash your clothes and expand your knowledge all in one place.
