I love RSS friendly news sites, I notice some even provide a comment feed. I don't have a use for it but imagine the possibilities for automation. Create a custom filter to show replies to your comments, for instance.

Another plug for RSSGuard by the way. This program is AMAZING.

#rss is a superpower and RSS Guard is an awesome program.

@mhoye this is funny. I went to Feedly for a while, since they were pretty similar to gReader, but then I came across the news app for #Nextcloud and have been using that as the aggregator with local clients (currently #RSSGuard) ever since.

And I mention this only because I noticed a new Social app that looks to be an ActivityPub-enabled something. It's in beta and I'm not exactly sure of the author's vision, but that journey kind of looks like the culmination of your left branch. 😆

I recently switched #RSSReaders from #TheOldReader to #Inoreader because I wanted more features. Their website isn't the greatest place to read feeds as far as #accessibility goes(I switched to their beta and am giving them some recommendations though, so hopefully that will change), so I'm looking for a good #Windows #app that will sync with Inoreader. I use #FieryFeeds on #iOS but I'm on my computer a lot, so I'd love a Windows app. Can anyone recommend one? I've tried several but they either didn't sync with it or accessibility was bad. Some of the ones I've tried are #FluentReader, #RavenReader, #QuiteRSS, #FeedDemon, #RSSGuard, #RSSOwlnix, and #MyReader. The last one is the only one that seemed to work with Inoreader but accessibility is pretty poor. If any others I mentioned work for you, how did you set it up? If you're using something else, what is it?

@jame

Install an RSS feed client on your smartphone and subscribe to RSS feeds of some blogs, media outlets, etc. that you like.

If you want an "integrated" solution that remembers what you have read across devices, look at selfhosting #Nextcloud, and having your clients pull from that (e.g. using #NextcloudNews on your phone, #RSSGuard on your desktop).

Nice, #RSSGuard has been able to extract all #RSS feeds I wanted automatically, so far.

now trying out #RSSGuard in earnest.

I like the feature set, hope it proves to be stable enough.

#RSSGuard

Pros: Easy to tell unread articles

Cons: Crashes frequently and randomly. Dodgy at showing content of a page rather than the entire page. Highly paywall-compatible.

6/8

@rolle @feeeed I don't know if it's the best, but I use #RSSGuard because it is mulitplatform and it natively supports pulling feeds from a #Nextcloud instance running the news module that I use as my aggregator.

2023-10-18

I did it and setup #RSSGuard
I really don't know why I stopped using RSS over 10 years ago and switch to follow news on social media instead, really not that practical and glad to be back to an easier way.
Now time to unfollow a bunch of stuff here to have a better timeline.

@pallenberg #RSSGuard als Client, mit #Nextcloud #News im Hintergrund, gut 200 Feeds.

RSS Guard ermöglicht eigene Filter mit #JavaScript, daher tagge und markiere ich damit, was ich (vermutlich) lesen möchte und lasse im Titel zusätzlich eine ungefähre Längenangabe einfügen.

#RSSGuard it is (thanks, @cybertailor).

It looks like something the cat thrown up, it is completely unresponsive while updating feeds (if you touch it, it even stops showing progress) and has insane locale-dependant date formats.

However, it doesn't need WebKit and after fighting its completely counter-intuitive way of resizing the headers (maybe that's a Qt thing) it finally shows me what I need and lets me do things more efficiently than #Liferea did.

#RSS

A screenshot of RSS Guard showing the "Unread articles" view with a bunch of PyPI release feeds. The main grid shows "Title" (which happens to be the release version), "Date" and "Channel" (which happens to include the package name).

The whole app is far from aesthetically pleasing. Backgrounds are in tones of gray, with barely visible outlines or no outlines at all. The text is white, except for channels with unread articles that are shown in a brighter shade of blue that's barely visible over gray background.

Trying #HaikuOS for the first time in several years. It remains faster and cleaner than any other modern OS, and I'm excited to see ports of #RSSGuard, #Remmina, and #Qutebrowser. For me, biggest issues affecting casual use are lack of support for VPN, Nextcloud, and Bitwarden. SSH tunneling and web apps for Nextcloud and Bitwarden might get me far enough!

And that's another #qt app gone. All my RSS feeds in #rssguard just disappeared. =(

Time to look into #GTK rss reader...

@joelghill@fosstodon.org I personally use #RSSGuard on Linux

Appearantly, #rssguard has mysql support, but the #flatpak doesn't include it! UGGGGGGGHHHHH

I've been meaning to get back to , but the plethora of providers and clients has been confusing. After much experimentation I've landed on:
- backend (self-hosted)
- desktop client
- mobile client
Loving it so far. It's such an efficient way to keep track of things. My only regret is not setting it up earlier
