One of my favorite songs of all time. In the distant past I remember singing it to #shapenote music.

New instance, new #introduction! (Also boosts will help federate the garden ^-^)
I'm a #Quaker #seminary student in #Pittsburgh. I love #DND and #TTRPG, and get up to #crochet, #hiking, and #naturephotography in my spare time.
Here's a motley list of things I like/post about!

The #gospel choir that opened the Democratic convention with the National Anthem: when they hit 'yet wave?', it sounded like #shapenote singing.
Both are religious in origin; would anyone know if the two styles have influenced each other, or have common roots?

Thursday means #berlinshapenote singing!
Tonight from 7:30-10pm at Refugio, Lenaustr. 3, #Berlin #Neukölln. If you want to sing in four-part harmony, in a very un-hierarchical, powerful, un-"choral" but rather "folky" way, with lots of open fifths, old-fashioned lyrics about death and resurrection, and addictive harmonies, it might be for you. No skills required, just come and sing with us!

A #Shapenote tune for #TuneTuesday - because "Sacred Harp is a cappella heavy metal!" (H. Grundner)
The theme #TravellingTunes fits the genre very well, so it's hard to pick one:
#SacredHarp 108 The Traveler
Trav’ler haste, the night comes on,
Many a shining hour is gone;
Storm is gathering in the west,
And you are so far from home.
Oh, come, trav’ler, haste away,
You must walk while it is day.
Oh, come, trav’ler, haste away,
You will find in Christ the way.
#TuneTuesday is a thing, and I'm here for it! And it has a theme, #BigRockEnding. My tune is NOT a rock song (although I like those, too!), but a #shapenote song from the #SacredHarp. It's called "Claremont", on page 245. Here, it is sung by about 200-300 people, at one of the largest annual singing conventions, in Western Massachusetts.
The ending coda deserves to be called a #BigRockEnding! It's one of the longest songs in the book, and usually sung "words only".
