today i learned that german LZB train control uses same 56khz inductive RF link as skytrain’s SelTrac system. the two systems seem really similar in many ways, like LZB is a cab signalling system whereas SelTrac is full driverless automatic. but maybe they have common heritage in the Standard Elektrik Lorenz. SelTrac was originally a german invention before UTDC and Alcatel took over here in Canada.
can any German railfans fill me in on this?

earlier today, this stupid anti-trespass/loiter alarm by the skytrain construction got yappy at me for taking pictures at the fence. i was startled af and very annoyed, not to mention confused.
came back later in spite and pointed my camera at the security systems, this time standing 1 metre from the fence, and waited for them to go off. and yeah, a fucking tornado siren is obnoxious and entirely comical.
a fucking siren is a bit excessive and obnoxious ya think? im on the sidewalk for heavens sake. and i am 100% allowed to take pictures of our public projects from the safety of behind the fence. this is bullshit. good news is, chances are that this is not a computer-activated alarm, but likely a real & authentic flesh-and-blood human jackass that gets pissy about regular citizens.
anyway i may go write them a nastygram, how nice of them to have their company info plastered on everything! whoever does this, fuck you, dirtbag!

central richmond is actually pretty nice:
- it has good transit service
- very marshy and lots of big wetlands and parks and dykes
- nice to watch airplanes
- apartment buildings are at all a reasonable height thanks to air traffic
- great line of sight to just about everything, great for radio
- cool mediumwave transmitters all over the place
i would like richmond to have:
- trolleybuses!
- less insane highway spam
- regional rail (west coast express)
why i wouldn’t live in richmond:
- the canada line pisses me off too much and makes me frown in disappointment of crushed dreams every time i see it. i wish it was real skytrain. i wish it was good.
Spotted the new Mark V type Skytrain being tested at Commercial-Broadway Station! It appears to be shown on the schedule as normal, the doors open, but the inside is fenced off so no one is permitted to board.
