over 1.5 years ago i was "gifted" fancy anker powerbank that had had a smol water incident and failed. looking inside (RIP the case) there is an obviously failed SOT-89 but i am totally stumped trying to figure out what it is (or was). now trying to tidy my workbench i am looking at it again...

the SMD code reads "8DP__" with the damaged characters probably being "KR" from a teardown on youtube. it has failed with pins 1 and 3 shorted which adds to the confusion, but one of those pins is gnd/0v and the only candidate i can find when searching the code has gnd on pin 2 so that seems not a match...?

i could just rip out the cells and recycle them in to some other housing, but that seems kinda wasteful seeing as the rest of it might just be fine apart from 1 component...

(or there is something else somewhere that has failed and is shorting those pins together... i guess i should try and setup the hot air soldering thing my lovely partner got me for christmas and try and remove it...)

Since it'll take some time for the PCBs to arrive, I decided to make a #prototype on #perfboard. It works fine, and I can test my programs using it. Turns out an #ATtiny814 is good enough for the task.
The #WS2812B #SMD #LEDs are very bright, though, and reducing brightness also reduces the possible color range.
The different color shadings are not very distinguishable, yet. I might have to adjust the color palette.

#nerdalert #smd #helpneeded #electronics #fixer #repair Has anyone got a steer on what this is, I’m drawing a blank. It’s on the power supply board for a heating system. The DF04S that feeds it is blown, so is a 78M05 nearby (as well as 3 opto isolators). Suspect a lightning strike.

Trying to decide if being #lazy is acceptable, or if I should do the job properly.

I have a #pcb with a 100 Ω #SMD #resistor already soldered to it, but need to replace it with something around (but not under) 27 Ω.

I could attempt to desolder the original resistor (but I don't have a heat gun/plate, so would have to do it with a soldering iron) and replace it with the correct value; OR I could solder a 39 Ω resistor on top of it, giving the equivalent resistance of ~28 Ω.

But is the lazy approach actually ok in practice? Should I just do it properly? 😬

Eher die Abschreckung das #SMD und somit #elektronik teuer ist.

Wer hat schon ein Mikroskop etc dafür zu Hause?

Auch die #Platinen für #SMD gibt es nicht wirklich als universell.

Alleine wie man diese herstellt / bestellt ist ein eigener Kurs.

Lochraster, ein bißchen Draht für ein bißchen #BlinkiBlinki ist wesentlich günstiger für den lernenden Anfänger.
