At 7:41 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, then new BNSF 6581, 6583, 5136, 4009, 5604 and 5035 led a southbound manifest out of Caliente, CA. They were approaching Tunnel 1 in the Tehachapi mountains.
BNSF 6581 is a GE ES44C4. Reportedly: it was built in 2013, serial number 61494.

This is a colour landscape photo of the Tehachapi Loop, with a freight train passing around, through and over the loop. Tehachapi, California (2017).

Firstly, an explanation. The Tehachapi Loop is a manmade spiral enabling a train to gain or loose height by passing through a short tunnel, then making a wide loop to the left before going over the tunnel, then still circling, routes along the base of the loop before disappearing into the distance, enabling the train to gain height in a short horizontal distance.

The view is from an elevated position, looking downwards slightly, at the track. There are two large leafless trees in the immediate foreground. Just visible through and around the trees is a length of track stretching from the left to the right. Beyond and below and to the lower left of centre is a small farm yard. To the far left of centre is the tunnel with a train in motion and running out of the tunnel around the loop anti-clockwise and with the front locomotives passing over the tunnel. In the centre of the loop is a large grassy, cone shaped mound, with a few scattered trees and a large white cross on the peak. In the near and far distance are hills with similar vegetation growing.

According to Wikipedia a train has to be 1200m (56 freight cars) long to pass over itself while encircling the loop, in this photo this is all that is visible, but I would bet there was that same length or more out of view on the far side of the tunnel !

The image is a black and white photograph depicting four individuals on the back of what appears to be a truck. On the left, there's an elderly woman wearing glasses with her hair in a bun, dressed in a coat with fur trim around the hood. She seems engaged in conversation or listening intently.

In front of this woman are two children; one is seated and slightly turned away from us while looking down at something on their lap, possibly reading material, and the other child stands to the right side of them leaning against the truck's railing with a contemplative expression. The standing child appears older than the first, wearing overalls.

The fourth individual sits behind these two children; this person is partially obscured by wooden slats that make up part of the back structure of the vehicle and wears what looks like patched trousers or coveralls.

In front of them are several wooden planks forming a makeshift seat for passengers. A license plate with numbers "2635-29" indicates it's from Kansas, suggesting this was taken on a journey through Arkansas to California as stated in context provided by the source link given - Family of ex-sharecroppers from Arkansas...

Santa Fe SD45-2 5803 led a westbound at the East Switch of Walong, CA late in the afternoon of Sunday, May 14, 1989.
ATSF 5803 was an EMD SD45-2u. Reportedly: it was built in 1973 as ATSF 5663, an SD45-2, builder number 72642-20. It became SPSF painted 7203 in 1986. It was later renumbered and repainted back as ATSF 5803. It later became BNSF 6453.

ATSF Cab Hop
ATSF 8752 was leading a mix of EMD and GEs on a westbound cab hop at Walong, CA, on Saturday, June 19, 1982. ATSF 8752 was a GE U36C. Reportedly it was built in 1974 builders number 39702. It was repainted to SPSF 8752 then repainted back to ATSF paint before retirement in September 1992.

This was shot with a Speed Graphic 4x5 on Ektachrome 64 film at 1/200 (leaf shutter) at f8. The lens is a 135mm Optar.

ATSF Eastbound at Woodford
On Saturday, June 19, 1982, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) C30-7 8150 and SD45-2 5635 led an eastbound (southbound) at Woodford, CA.
ATSF 8150 was a C30-7. Reportedly it was built in 1981, builder's number 43577, repainted to SPSF 8150 returned to GE Dec 1989 for GECX, to BN lease December 1991, became BNSF 5193, retired.

Only Santa Fe
On Friday, June 18, 1982. Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 3821 led 5938, 4630, an SD40-2, 8050 and another C30-7 westbound at Ilmon, CA. This consist is GP50, F45, SD26, SD40-2 and two C30-7s, only Santa Fe.
ATSF 3821 was an EMD GP50. Reportedly it was built in 1981, builders number 806006-6. It became BNSF 3174.
