I just found out about KeyCon, a mechanical keyboard convention happening in DC tomorrow.

I would 100% be there if it weren't for the ridiculous birthday parade clusterf*cking up the city. They picked the wrong day for this thing.

Yup, #HHKB & #Topre is where it is at. Shit, I just added a bunch of `````` trying to backp`space...hahaha i did it again :). The Type-S is really quiet. I will say that every video on YouTube that shows how these sound are absolutely way off. These are smooth & thocky yet silent.

Always a good day when you do some meditative bodge work. Testing a #topre #Keyboard prototype for a friend.

On the hardware side of my dev setup I made 2 changes:

Switched from #Realforce TKL keyboard to #HHKB Pro Hybrid Type-S. Those #topre switches are endgame, and while I had the same ones in the Realforce, the overall feel of HHKB, its layout, size, weight, feels great. It forced me to start using ctrl in caps-lock position due to its layout, which is something I wanted to try in the past but never had enough will. Should have done this earlier, because it feels great.

I must say I’m not terribly impressed with these #Topre keyswitches.

I made a one key #Topre macropad/ornament #keyboard for a secret Santa that was happening on a discord server I'm a part of:
* Onboard samd21
* Two layer, 1.2mm PCB with rails that fits in the cheap JLC 100mm x 100mm size.
* Basic EC circuit, no need for amux with just one key
* Switch plate is reversible to make it a snowflake on both sides.
* Runs @zmk / @zephyr

Oh no... I've just purchased a short throw #topre #keyboard for some science experiments! Looking forward to it arriving.

Compact beige keyboard with JIS layout and funky top F-row, with a mix of latin and non-latin legends.

Building on the great work from ajf85 on the @zephyr support (still in a PR there), I got my XIAO RP2350 working perfectly in my Topreviung #topre #keyboard running #ZMK:

Topreviung r2 #topre #keyboard prototypes are a success! The first stab at the basic tray mount case *mostly* worked. Probably add a couple more solder nuts to help secure it better, and thicken the walls a tad bit.

Built with a XIAO (original samd21), harvested housings with MX sliders, 45g KLC domes, and topped with PBS blank keycaps. Running @zmk, naturally.

42 key unibody split keyboard with off-white keycaps, white switch plate and thin black case. A small microcontroller is visible in the top center.Side profile of the keyboard, showing the keycaps just visible over the side wall of the black case.

VOD of my earlier #topre #keyboard PCB assembly stream is up: twitch.tv/videos/2287894866

A few weeks ago, after realizing the XIAO footprint had *just* enough pins for a #topre #Keyboard design, I quickly hacked together a remix of the classic reviung41 keyboard to use the XIAO controller, along with the various tweaks to move to 4-layers, EC footprints, mounting holes, etc (youtu.be/lXe99vcf53k)

Topreviung #topre #keyboard lives!

* Remix of the reviung41 from gtips.
* XIAO controller (samd21 version here. Validation of wireless build is pending)
* 42 key layout
* 45g KLC domes, harvested housings with JTK sliders.
* PBS blanks

In 10 minutes I'll be #streaming the process of writing the #zmk firmware/shield for my Toprevuing #topre/EC PCB over at twitch.tv/petejohanson

Got a wild hair to do some Friday night PCB work on #stream, doing some #Topre hacking if you want to join me: twitch.tv/petejohanson

Got in my white PBS blanks yesterday from CannonKeys. Threw them on my Zapy #topre #keyboard right away. *Very* subtle texture, almost, but not quite slick. Nice sound profile, and the large surface area of the cylindrical tops are actually really nice for single finger vertical combos. Hoping for some nice sets in PBS in the future. Love the tons of convex bars in the stock kit too.

Rebuilt my Le Chiffre #Keyboard with the 36-key layout to verify that with my wireless #topre Le Zapybara PCB. Added silencing rings to go with the 35g carrots, and sporting KAM Blanks with Asymplex artisan thumb row.

R2 prototypes of my Le Zapybara wireless #topre #keyboard PCB are in and are good, which finally let me build my Le Chiffre+ case!

* @zmk (and @zephyr of course) under the hood
* BLE/USB using a Minew MS88SF3 module
* 500mAh LiPo battery
* ADXL362 accelerometer for movement detection for wake from low power mode.
* KLC housings with 35g deskey carrot domes, and MT3 Operator keycaps.

34-key, unibody split keyboard with Le Chiffre layout, in a rich green anodized aluminum case, on a desk with various tools and Topre parts strewn around it.Exposed internals of the keyboard, showing the bottom of a blue PCB that includes a cutout for a thick LiPo pack in the center bottom portion.

3d-printed Topre dome (keyboard switch) working! And it has a very satisfying tactile feel.

Printing on 60A TPU - a little bit tricky but doable.

Next step: plastic casing.
