@BigD I offer you “Upper Hutt in a Northerly Gale” - the storm was preceded by a Shakespearean chorus of #TreeFrogs that reside outside my bedroom window. When the wind abates they sing for more. It feels very “cause and effect”.

A blustery and overcast view of Upper Hutt New Zealand. Bare branched poplar trees are curve over in the howling 90kmh winds. Giant tree ferns in the foreground dance and shimmer in a blur. Drops of rain distort portions of the view and sheets of rain lash and scrub the windows. Not a great day for being outside and remaining dry.

Today we went with a group on a hike along the #Neabsco Boardwalk. I told someone that it was my goal to learn how to see #TreeFrogs as some other photographers started showing them to us. I actually did really good and probably saw a 10 or 12 so maybe I am moving along my path of learning to recognize them.It was very cool to be able to pick them out. Usually I have fairly good eyes for wildlife, thanks Alaskan upbringing, so it’s cool to add another neon animal to my detector arsenal. USA VA

Hyla versicolor clinging to the vertical surface of a rain gutter downspout. Deep green hosta leaves fill the bottom half of the photograph.

Anaxyrus americanus, or the Eastern American toad soaking in a plastic food container full of water. A maple leaf floats alongside the toad.

Terrible Invasive Story 🙁

I had a real treat the other day when a Green Tree Frog visited me in the hot tub. I used to see these almost every day, but no more. Spring used to bring a cacophony of frogs chirping, but no more.

The reason is "The Beast" aka the #Invasive #CubanTreeFrog which EATS OTHER TREE FROGS! They are huge and toad-like. I kill them when I find them, but the battle is already lost where I live in north #Florida.

As you can see from the #Map, these invaders are moving north and are now #Endemic in my area (red circle). 👎
