Wegen des Beatles-Songs („ I am the walrus - Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob“) muss ich natürlich auch einmal ein surrealistisches Bild mit einem Walross zeichnen. Dies ist eine unfertige Hälfte.

Ein riesiges Walross mit enorm langen Stoßzähnen liegt auf einer angeschmolzenen Eisscholle. Die gefurchte Haut seines Körpers setzt sich aus hunderten kleiner Gestalten zusammen. Das gewaltige Tier erhebt sich vor einem See im Vordergrund, auf dem zwei winzige Gestalten in einem Boot sitzen und angeln. Ganz im Vordergrund schwimmen die großen Blätter, Knospen und Blüten von Seerosen auf dem Wasser, und ein Fisch schnappt nach Luft. Hinter dem Walross stehen sich links und rechts zwei mittelalterlich gekleidete Menschengruppen gegenüber, die eine Schneeballschlacht veranstalten. Große Seerosenblätter wachsen schirmartig in den Himmel. Weiter im Hintergrund liegen schneebedeckte Berge jenseits eines Eismeeres.

The melting Arctic ice may be a reason for the exotic appearance of Freya, a female walrus who arrived on the Netherlands’ shores in August 2021. She became a draw for visitors and media, exuding a certain charisma, even a sense of melancholy, being so far from home. Sadly, her subsequent reappearance in Oslo harbour in Norway proved fatal. The authorities felt forced to have her shot in the interests of public safety.
