@delta Texttriptychon

Quite a few of #deltachat #chatmail and #webxdc folks are already and will be around #39c3 -- on-site you can join a group chat (or send us a DM upfront) where we announce dynamically scheduled sessions. You'll find us mostly around Komona but also other places ... for more info:

this #shopplinglist is a #webxdc app so it runs inside #deltachat or #cheogram.

you can self-host #chatmail or #xmpp server for those chat apps, and thereby self-host the app running inside them.

#deltachat allows pinning apps to your launcher on #android.

@game @naufraghi

I got lost down a rabbit hole with learning about Delta Chat! Webdxc also looks very fadcinating.

this is so cool! I ported to TIC-80 for making, playing and sharing tiny

you can import/export files with add/get commands!

with this you can create games in , , , , etc and play/share them with friends as in-chat apps in /

I would like to expose the webxdc API to TIC-80 games so they can do networking/multiplayer and send in-chat messages

screenshot of delta chat with TIC-80 open as a webxdcscreenshot of TIC-80 as webxdc app inside delta chat, in the image you can see a TIC-80 game open and some TIC-80 tools

created an small app for / as a joke to quickly send a "Yo!" or "Bro!" notification to your chat pals!

this was inspired by an episode of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_

and actually there was a real app with this feature in that received 1M dollars in investment!
🤯🤯🤯
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yo_(app)

unlike that app that got hacked and user data exposed, this app can't be hacked since it works encrypted between peers without any 3rd party service

and on a *completely different* decentralized chat question, #Webxdc apps as pioneered by Delta Chat are a very cool idea and I hope to see them quickly adopted in other chat systems, but I think they still need a while to cook.

unsurprisingly, the best implementation (out of the two I've tried) is in Delta Chat.

for XMPP there is XEP-0491. I tried it in the Monocles chat app, but it still needs a lot of work there to be called usable.

On the occasion of SimpleX and Session getting cryptocoin-donations/funding ... we won't hide that most delta contributors are pretty skeptical of cryptocoin-circles. Exhibit 1: #Webxdc apps - mini apps that anyone can whip up -- and the declared motto still on the webxdc.org web page since inception mid 2022:

No logins, no coins, no platforms ...

and this year, January 23rd, we added "no billionaires" to the growing list of things deserving a "no" :)

Reading about webxdc and how it integrates with Deltachat… it looks simple and easy to learn. I’ve already seen a small social media client app looking an 8 bit application. Super fun.

@delta @arale_xan that's fine 🙂 I'm an #XMPP person myself but I've also been following what Delta Chat has been doing. It's cool that both use #WebXDC for "apps" (right?) because that's one less level of fragmentation for the messaging ecosystem

(I saw you mention it in light of Signal's new "polls" feature, although I knew it was happening before as well. I'm just waiting for a few more XMPP clients to pick it up and add support 😅)

@copper_tunic yes, I have played it (masochistic on mobile) but very little, Moria and Zangband is what I have played more in PC

about not needing e2e you talked about sending letters to the player, if there is communication there is a need for privacy, ofc that ultimately depends on the people, for example it is already possible to play Quake over #webxdc and the in-game chat is then e2e encrypted

2025-11-20

@copper_tunic the advantage of having it as a #webxdc is:

doesn't depend on some ssh server or any server in particular

can be used easily on mobile

it is e2e encrypted so people can have their games and chats in private

can be played offline and you can also change across devices, start in pc, continue in phone etc

2025-11-15

@devSJR notice that the email composer #webxdc is meant to be used (and only work properly) inside #ArcaneChat, not #DeltaChat

#webxdc / @delta is somethig I've discovered lately that seems to have the freshness and community growth potential I haven't seen for a long time. coding is fun again

Today, we were nicely surprised by @gianmarcogg03 with a new comprehensive (italian) #deltachat introduction video, going through initial setup, groups and chatting, second device setup, #webxdc apps, bots, calls and playing Quake -- all the nice things you can do these days :)

mastodon.uno/@gianmarcogg03/11

containing peertube, odysee and youtube links (latter provides English subtitles)

Fun fact: devs noticed some tiny but embarrassing glitches in the UI which are now getting fixed as we speak :)

Is DeltaChat's WebXDC app store the offline-first app sandbox we have always needed? It will probably even have its own network effect of "no other chat app supports communication between other apps".

Not taking Venture Capital money means:

- No pressure to maximize monetization of usage (for every million of VC funding you need to find ~100+ Million in value later).

- No prioritization of growing fast with PR campaigns that promise the moon and stumble on the ground

- No billionaire who ultimately profits

Instead, we seek public funding and private contributions for #chatmail #deltachat and #webxdc developments.

Thanks to everyone who is helping and already test-driving things :)

the picture is a collage and shows the head of a dinosaur with an open mouth and many teeth trying to swallow a Zeppelin that seems to be flying directly into the mouth. Next to the dinosaur head is a classic "@" email symbol.

the middle part is blue, and has overlay graphics of a moon-like planet and some old computers in the back

the bottom part contains a picture of a sysadmin ca. 1975 in front of computer screens that show green letters on a black screen. There also are separately three cryptic letter chains that seem to translate to "Communications", "Command" and "Sigma". Another "@" sign is left of the computer screens.
