#Caesium-137, a product of #uranium-235 fission, is one of the world's most widely used #radionuclides and is the inspiration for my nick.

Did you know that Margaret Melhase Fuchs, a #chemistry undergraduate at UC #Berkeley, discovered Cs-137 in 1941, but was prevented from pursuing a PhD?

Happy birthday to Danish #seismologist Inge Lehmann (1888 – 1993) who demonstrated that the Earth’s core is not a single molten sphere, but contained an inner solid core, in ‘36. She was a pioneer #womanInScience, a brilliant seismologist & lived to be 105.

As she first postulated, the #earth has roughly 3 equal concentric sections: mantle, liquid outer core & solid inner core. The crust, on which we live is merely 🧵1/n

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMAN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE DAY! 🧬🔬🥼🧫🧪 I am very disappointed my daughter’s university did not choose to recognize this on their social media, or within the student body today. #WomanInScience womeninscienceday.org/

She learned #rspatial while writing her bachelor thesis. And this is the result.

She is not in the #fediverse, but congratulations for the excellent work in this paper. Well done Naomi Toledo Rojas!

#WomenAndGirlsInScience SPOTLIGHT DAY 5!

Jana De Ridder is one of 3 PhD students in the joint project of Funmorph and the Evolutionary Morphology group of the UGent. This project looks at the mechanical basis of evolutionary divergence in Darwin's finches. 🐦

Jana is looking at differences in function and morphology of jaw muscles of different species. In the Funmorph lab, she is recording the beak movement during feeding and singing.

👩‍🔬 Happy birthday to #MarieCurie, born on this day in 1867 in Warsaw.

Today we celebrate a physicist & chemist who changed the course of history. The first woman to win a @NobelPrize. But more importantly, a pioneer #WomanInScience and an inspiring #ProphetOfDigital.
