Historical Knitting & Crochet question:
How old is the usage of Blocking Pins* ?
Presumably it's tied to the invention and popular usage of rust proof pins - so somehow tied to Victorian Era Industrialisation ? - but this is hard for me, a non Historian to research.
[* Blocking Pins are groups of pins that today usually have plastic handles but can also be made with wooden handles]

Just boosting this, can anyone help with a historical Yarncraft question?
How old a technology is the "blocking comb", a small comb with a few sharp pins in to keep yarn in place? A quick look online implies that they've only been around since the 1970s, but the technology feels like it could be much older.
Thank you.
Something cozy is coming. πΏοΈ

It's an inside day today, but an opportunity to capture this combination of leftover yarn, helical knitting, and colorway pooling in a swirling #RibbedCap for #ScrapAlong2026
I look forward to seeing other yarn crafter's work soon!
Beach break. I finished this #RibbedCap of leftover yarn a day before the "official" start of #ScrapAlong2026. This one is sentimentalβ¦
I used the very last yards of a ball of soft green Zitron Trekking XXL 285, a gift from my mother when she taught me her method of knitting socks. Sixteen years ago.
My first project for #ScrapAlong2026 is another ribbed cap in helical knitting on double pointed needles. I can practically make these in my sleep now!
The yarn is leftover Lang Yarns Jawoll Superwash and Froehlich Wolle Special Blauband from my mother's stash and a mini skein from Woolen Boon.
This is truly comfort knitting.
Remember, any craft that uses yarn is included in this Scrap Along!
For christmas i got patterns for crocheted animals and flowers. And a gift card to the local yarn shop.
Spoons has been low since but today i finally managed to go to the shop.
And i bought 21 skeins of yarn π
When it's so hard for me to go there, i just don't want to suddenly need a colour.
And it was 8/4 cotton yarn, so it was like less than 2 euro per skein.
I bought the yarn, and 15 pairs of eyes in three colors. And still didn't use all of the gift card π

Circular needles are fun!
Thought I might have to buy new ones as 25 cm is short, but too long for what I am doing but .. tomorrow I will try magic loop with the other much longer cabled needles I have.
::Sigh:: Reading and watching tutorials really is no substitute for actually *doing the thing*
[~I know this~ and yet I keep having to relearn this fact !]
Almost done my rainbow scarf! Doing one more colour repeat and aiming to end on red! So that it will start and end on red. π
It's exactly the length I wanted it to be. I have a black/grey/white scarf the same length (store bought.) Frogging my original scarf and starting over one pattern repeat wider was exactly right.
Loom knitting, apparently dates back to at least the 14th Century and is a completely valid form of yarn crafting.

I've found my circular knitting needles!
I have never knit with them before.
Please share with me your easiest, beginner level, DK weight, free (or cheap) patterns.
Thanks ππΎ
My needles range from 3.75 - 10mm and I have varying interchangeable cable lengths :)
Thanks to @RogerBW and @TindrasGrove who already gave me some help

HOW COME NONE OF Y'ALL TOLD ME THAT MAKING YARN CAKES WITH A YARN WINDER IS SO RELAXING ? ?
Am #knitting something with thicker wool than pattern recommends and am 36 rows into 80 rows of approx 100 (?) row pattern and already eyeing half ball of yarn and doing *intense* yarn chicken.
Wish me luck.
(It's a video tutorial not written)

World news is increasingly CUCKOOBANANAPANTS!
Sooooo I'm using the remainder of my birthday money to buy a Yarn winder in a vain attempt to stack and store all my yarn stash in one place - and potentially declutter π€·πΏββοΈπ
How ya doing and what's your craft / art / Hobby related coping mechanism for 2026* ?
[* For Fucks Sake - it's not even the end of January !]
So is it just me that feels like Bilbo Baggins at the start of every new yarn project ?
Instead of:
"I'm going on An Adventure!"
I just find myself thinking -
"I'm gonna make A Thing!"
I crocheted (a very wonky) BJD hat !
1/3 scale, it took me about five days because I was following a YouTube tutorial and .. the tutorial wasn't paced very well or even mostly in focus :C
BUT
I made A Thing from yarn !
Why do you #Knit / #Crochet / #Yarncraft* ?
If why you Yarncrafts is not on the poll please elaborate in the comments.
Thank you
[Yarncraft: Anything involving yarn/wool/thread, #embroidery, #macrame, #lace making, #weaving, rug tufting a bazillion things I prob don't know about. If *you* think it's a Yarncraft, it counts]
Ah crochet magic circle - my old nemesis
We meet again. π
You shan't defeat me this time.
I have a renewed sense of stubbornness on my side.
