One sleeping owlfly, many different options.
Some insects are really easy to handle when sleeping. I found this one just before sunset. I cut off the grass stem it was sitting on. Fixed that stem to a small tripod and my camera on another tripod. This way I was able to place in front of different backgrounds and take pictures from different angles and distances. They’ll stay asleep as log as they aren’t warmed by direct sunlight. So these pictures are the same animal on the same stem taken (not in the order shown here) in golden hour, blue hour and then again in the morning in the shade - in front of different backgrounds The last image is after it woke up and flew a short distance. Direct sunlight makes for very contrasty, busy and hard macro images.
