Interesting article - lots to think about. I have to admit that my own rough calculations on sustainability have mostly related to kms ridden that would otherwise have been driven.
The point about compatibility is vital, I think, across the range of frame materials, and should probably be legislated.
@JustMe I live in Canada 😀. We face many of the same challenges here mind you. Recently-implemented carbon taxes may ultimately have some effect, esp since we all get regular rebate cheques (= use less carbon and you pocket the savings).
But I see that quote as aspirational: externalities associated with massive vehicles are also massive - emissions, infrastructure wear & tear, and the danger posed to the living world outside the vehicle. We all pay for the consumer choice of some.
