@CharlesSites Unfortunately, there are definitely places in Baltimore where taking the lane will get you killed.

I had to rescue a baby rabbit trapped in our garden fence. Hopefully the little guy gets back to his group. I put him within sight of 6 other rabbits. It was hard convincing Ellie not to touch it but human scent would mark it so I used beekeeping gloves that smell like everything but humans.

If you can view stereo pairs with crossed eyes, here is Proxima Centauri seen from two locations 47 astronomical units apart: Earth, and the New Horizons spacecraft.

In the paper there are also β€œparallel view” pairs (the same, with the images swapped) that might work better for some people, with a card between their eyes so the correct image goes to each eye.

last night! The Pride Ride is usually one of the biggest of the year, but the rain shrank our numbers a bit. Still enough to completely encircle Lake Montebello, though!

"A cyclist is a disaster for the country's economy: he does not buy cars and does not borrow money to buy. He does not pay for insurance policies. He does not buy fuel, does not pay for the necessary maintenance and repairs. He does not use paid parking. He does not cause serious accidents. He does not require multi-lane highways. He does not get fat.
Healthy people are neither needed nor useful for the economy. They don't buy medicine. They do not go to hospitals or doctors. Nothing is added to the country's GDP (gross domestic product).
On the contrary, every new McDonald's restaurant creates at least 30 jobs: 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 dietary experts and nutritionists, and obviously, people who work at the restaurant itself."
Choose carefully: cyclist or McDonald's? It is worth considering.
P.S. Walking is even worse. Pedestrians don't even buy bicycles.
P.P.S. If you have read this far and still don't get it, this post is SATIRE. Reread it with this in mind.

The street that my mum lives in is a one-way street, but wasn't marked as such on #Google Maps. This caused many drivers to drive the wrong way. I have tried to edit it on Google Maps (there is such functionality), but to no avail. No matter how often I submitted a change (with photos of street signs!), Google said "Sorry, we could not verify it".

Solution: Edit the street on #OpenStreetMap! A few months after I did this, Google seems to have stolen the data, as it regularly does, and now the street is correct in both datasets!

Ask not whether cyclists should wear helmets, ask why pedestrians shouldn't carry bricks.

20mph speed limits save lives. Research from London:

"Child casualties dropped by 46%, and children killed by 75%"

20mph = Fewer maimed and dead children.

Difficult to argue with that.

"AI companies claim their tools couldn't exist without training on copyrighted material. It turns out, they could β€” it's just really hard. To prove it, AI researchers trained a new model that's less powerful but much more ethical. That's because the LLM's dataset uses only public domain and openly licensed material."

tl;dr: If you use public domain data (i.e. you don't steal from authors and creators) you can train a LLM just as good as what was cutting edge a couple of years ago. What makes it difficult is curating the data, but once the data has been curated once, in principle everyone can use it without having to go through the painful part.
So the whole "we have to violate copyright and steal intellectual property" is (as everybody already knew) total BS.

Wheelchair user. The scourge of dickheads parking cars and vans across the pavement and completely blocking my way is getting worse. I'm completely helpless and am so frustrated, angry and upset by its impact on my daily life, I now carry a penknife in my chair to puncture tyres.

@si2mev Cool! I'd like to try a velomobile one day, but there probably won't be room for one in my life anytime soon.
