@kaixin Absolutely. Yes, we need to move to Wayland eventually. But now hardly seems the time to suddenly drop X11 outright. Plenty of things still have X11 dependencies.

Enshittification comes for open source:
Slack is kicking two large open source groups, Cloud Native Computing Foundation and Kubernetes, off of their donated enterprise tier, giving them one week notice to migrate multiple years of data to a new platform before it's all deleted: https://www.cncf.io/blog/2025/06/16/cncf-slack-workspace-changes-coming-on-friday-june-20/
Instead of learning from this experience and not trusting the good will of profit-motivated closed source companies, it looks like both projects will be moving to ... Discord. Because "people know it." Will we never learn?
(Dropped Cory because he's probably getting tons of spam from this. Sorry!)
@huxley Yup. For all our crying and screaming about privacy and enshittification, most of the world still refuses to consider anything else. The excuses are endless and infuriating.
#AI companies from #China are smuggling data on hard drives to #Malaysia to train #AImodels using rented servers, circumventing US #chiprestrictions, involving 4.8 PB of data. https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/chinese-ai-outfits-smuggling-suitcases-full-of-hard-drives-to-evade-u-s-chip-restrictions-training-ai-models-in-malaysia-using-rented-servers?eicker.news #tech #media #news
What's worse than AI slop? Actual people creating stuff that looks/sounds like AI slop because that's the standard now.

And no, they're not doing it out of nostalgia or familiarity from their youth. These are kids and young adults who literally think that GIFs are the latest thing.
So many people insist on making shitty GIFs from the 1990s, instead of any actual video format that came out in the 30 years since.

For many homelabbers it's more like: Heating racks that also function as over-provisioned servers :p
I can't believe we replaced blogs and RSS with people emailing their posts to you. just a really obviously stupid step backwards
and tomorrow I have to wake up at 8am to go to work
Their only "solution" was to block emails from Apple so I won't be bothered by security notification about what hackers are doing with my account.
After many conversations with Apple representatives, it has been determined that Apple's OFFICIAL POSITION on compromised accounts/identity theft is that it's NOT THEIR PROBLEM and there is no process to handle it.
Something to consider the next time you think of using Apple products because of their "security" and "privacy" marketing.

Not that it directly affects me, but I'm calling out #LinkedIn as being complicit in global #scams (or #espionage?) to impersonate and infiltrate IT jobs in the US.
Agents are using LinkedIn to hire foreign labor as full-time impersonators.
Having reported these agents to LinkedIn, they decided that there is no issue here.
I remember having to infect myself with viruses (on an air-gapped system) just to see what it's like, and test recovery methods.
