Just some #mosstodon from a recent hike in the Palos Verdes Peninsula hills near Los Angeles. There's a nature preserve along one of the canyons with a stream running through it that actually has water after this winter's repeated storms, unlike when I went there last summer (or was it fall?) And it was completely dry.

With rainstorms for the first half of the week, I completely forgot about the #conjunction of #Venus and #Jupiter tonight.

Despite wind, rain and hail today, It cleared up this afternoon. I happened to run out for groceries and looked up from the parking lot to see a blue sky with Venus and Jupiter right next to each other!

I got out the good camera and tripod when I got home.

And I think I may have caught some of Jupiter's moons?!?

Dark blue sky, blurry bushes off to the right. In the middle of the sky are two bright spots right next to each other, the right one noticeably brighter.Closeup: two white circles against a dark blue background. The one on the right is bigger and has diffraction rays radiating from it. The one on the left doesn't, but there are two faint, blurry dots above it aligned with the disc.

I've got to remember to use the telephoto after getting the wide shot the next time I'm taking night sky photos with planets. Just in case.

The brighter planet to the right is Venus. The almost-as-bright one to the left is Jupiter. Venus shows diffraction rays, but Jupiter doesn't...but those dots lined up on one side of it? They're in the right location to be Callisto, Ganymede and (possibly) Io!

A full 22-degree circular #halo spotted today, caused by #sunlight refracting through ice crystals in the thin cloud layer. (It was around 65F at ground level.)

These halos are about the same width as a 1x photo on my phone (and most point-and-shoot cameras I’ve had), so I used the wide angle mode to catch the whole thing and then crop it down. I bumped up the saturation a little, but otherwise it’s unprocessed.

Maison Therese, France

The living room inside this abandoned house is wonderfully charming, as is the case in these smaller abandoned French houses. There is the usual carved wooden furniture one comes to expect when stepping inside abandoned houses in the region.

Dandelion, refracted. I like this one because it shows an 'old' flower that almost appears to be dreaming of younger days, with the full-bloom flower refracted through the water droplet. I think it might be one of my favorite photos I've ever taken. (though still some technical aspects I'd like to improve upon...) #PhotoMonday #photography #macro #flowers #reflection #water #WSSA23 #weeds #weedscience

A close-up photo of a ripened dandelion flower with only one seed left attached. On top of the empty seed head, a water droplet sits, and through that water droplet can be seen the refracted image of a bright yellow dandelion flower in the background.

The wave-like patterns that can be seen near the center of this image are the result of charged particles from a central pulsar striking surrounding, ring-shaped gas and creating shocks.

A nebula. To the right of center in the image is bright blue gas that forms circular waves that extend outward from the center. In the midst of this bright blue gas are yellow wisps and red filaments that swirl around the bright blue center. White stars are spread throughout the image.

A Triple View of Comet ZTF

Comet ZTF is shown high above and far beyond a row of silhouetted trees. The top inset image shows how the comet looked through binoculars, while the lower inset image shows how the comet looked, last week, thought a small telescope. The lower inset image clearly shows the comets coma, dust tail, ion tail, and a noticeable antitail.
