Think back to where you started from Remember the times you were curious as a kid, hold onto those inquisitive feelings, and embrace making mistakes along the way. By doing this, you become invincible, completely immune to self-doubt and impenetrable to criticism.

Ideas for when you feel like you're losing motivation

- Write your reasons on a post-it and place it somewhere you would see it daily
- Make a journal entry explaining why you're learning the language(s)
- Talk to someone, either a study buddy or a friend, and tell them about your learning journey

In the end, it's always worth it

Remind yourself that, along with the reasons you started in the first place.

Personally, | love that light-up response when natives think they're going to have to struggle through with their English, only to be surprised (and relieved) when | can meet them halfway with my little Portuguese.

Start slow and build up over time

Many end up making the mistake of starting out hard and fast, completely overdoing things, and burning out really quickly. This is where my approach is very different, having made this mistake many times myself. These days, whenever | try to make a habit, | always start out small and gradually build up over time when | get comfortable with the current workload.

The power of accountability

Accountability is a great tool to reinforce habits. Ask yourself these questions regularly to figure out bottlenecks:
- Am I doing the things that I need to do? How often am I doing those things?
- Am | struggling by self-sabotaging and overthinking?
- What do I struggle with exactly?

...and remember to have fun!

If you don't see any positive gains from it, you'll likely end up quitting and doing something else. This is why I advise anyone to find fun and positive ways to form healthy habits from day one. And when you struggle to stay focused, remember what started it all in the first place and try new methods to have fun in the process. Read the whole article on languagecafe.world
