Spring is really Springing here now and I saw some very good bugs the last few days and that always reminds me of the time I talked about how amazing Bugs are, the Faith of Bugs, and our collective Bug Karma

Warbler is perched in the lower left third of the frame on a lichen covered log on in the grass, looking right. The background is out of focus grass dotted with yellow flowers.

I'd be super grateful for help from California folks who frequent hardware and feed stores. If you see Spartan Mosquito Pro Techs for sale, would you please take a photo and send to me? I'm especially interested in pics from the 64 Home Depot locations that claim to have them in stock. The pesticide product does not have a registration to be sold in the state and I'm trying to get the manufacturer fined ($10,000 per instance). It's a scam device and the company deserves to go bankrupt ASAP. #HomeDepot #mosquitoes #california #pesticides #mississippi #epa #scam

Store display of boxes of Spartan Mosquito Pro Techs, with various claims such as "kill mosquitoes on any property up to 1 acre for up to 30 days" and "100% American made." Each box has a photograph of a mosquito on it. $24.97 per box.Listing of addresses of Home Depots that illegally sell the Spartan Mosquito Pro Tech, a plastic tube filled with sugar, yeast, water, and boric acid. Next to each location is the number of boxes in stock. At the bottom is the total available: 6,926.

Celebrating #FungiFriday with officially the teeniest mushroom I've photographed; I'm still pretty new to real macro photography and it's proven to be quite the challenge, particularly on film, but wow is it satisfying when the effort pays off!

#mushtodon #sporespondence #mushrooms #fungi #Mosstodon #film #filmphotography #macrophotography

color film photo of a pair of tiny, light brown mushrooms growing from a dense carpet of short, green moss; they have narrow stipes each leading to a round cap that curves slightly inward around the edge; looking closely at the cap, one can see that it's covered in tiny white granules and seems to be ever so slightly pleated, creating the appearance of dark stripes running towards the edge where the gills are presumably attached inside; in the foreground, the blurred outlines of several even smaller specimens are visible

do you think birds got the idea from fungi or fungi got the idea from birds?

A tiny incandescence of rough-winged swallow looking out across the river.

Photo of a very small, round-headed, and fluffy bird with soft, rich sepia coloring at the face and wings and pale, creamy white feathering fluffed up like a handful of gathered tulle skirts. The little bird, a Northern rough-winged swallow, is perched for the moment on a silver railing overlooking the swift (no pun intended), glowy, bottle-green river. The early morning sun is flaring across the scene, casting the body of the swallow in a fierce glow like white flame that licks across the lower railing as well and brings the sepia of eir cheeks to a gentle blush.

fun thing about having Butt Plants is that sometimes they just split up into more butts. this was three butts last year, now it's six butts. maybe next year it'll be twelve butts. we're on the precipice of exponential butt growth 📈

A golden-eyed lacewing. Many years ago, these were the first insects that really caught my attention. They seem so perfect and exotic that it's hard to believe they're real.

#Lacewings #Neuroptera #insects #Photography

A green insect is hanging from the serrated edge of a green leaf, in front of a blurry green background. In contrast to all this green is the insect's small yellow and brown head, like a mantis's head, with two huge shiny golden balls for eyes. The insect's large wings, transparent green and veined like lace, are folded at its sides. Through them, we can see its thin, green abdomen. The insect grasps the leaf with tiny pistachio-green legs. A long, green thorax lifts the insect's head high, like a tall, regal collar befitting this lace-clad faerie queen.

A sweet, cuddly bee fly (Bombylius major) on a daisy. I love these fuzzy little needle-nosed cartoons.

#fly #flies #diptera #insects #photography

A dark, very fuzzy insect is sipping from the florets of a daisy, using a long needle-like proboscis. At first glance we might mistake it for a bumblebee, but it's really a bee-mimicking fly. Its body is a chubby bulb attached to its needly nose. Its wings are spread wide. Their front surface is solid dark brown, but their back half is transparent. The fly clings to the flower with thread-thin legs. Its eyes are soft dark brown balls, concentrating on the tasty snack.
