Philosopher as Microbiologist
Noteworthy — It's a fascinating experience, to stumble upon a "philosopher's gem."

Scientists Were Wrong for Decades: What Looked Like DNA Knots Turned Out To Be Something Far More Twisted
In memory of Jean Paul Euzéby (1949-2025), who passed away last October. He brought #LPSN to life, the List of Prokaryotic Names with Standing in Nomenclature. An indispensable database and tool for microbiologists all over the world.

Heute fand die offizielle Verabschiedung unseres ehemaligen Wissenschaftlichen Direktors Prof. Dr. Jörg Overmann statt.
I am so happy to co-author this #preprint #review on #archaeal #tetraether #lipids, aka #GDGTs, as #marine paleoenvironmental indicators led by Felix Elling and Gordon Inglis!
The #consensus presented in this preprint review was written by 40 experts on GDGTs, including both lead authors and myself.
The Earth and Space Science Open Archive preprint is available there:

Last week, we presented our new NWE #Interreg project #PREWAPHARM at the Campus Earth day at the University of #Münster. Turns out that many people are already aware of the problems that #pharmaceutical residues can cause in our #water bodies and we had some great discussion on ways to solve this problem. In PREWAPHARM, we are working on microbial solutions to remove harmful compounds directly at the source, e.g. hospitals, care facilites, remote communities.
One of the downsides of organizing a scientific symposium: you have to be there early to... well organize. Usually I don't do early mornings, today I make an exception - for science!
STC blog is finally back!
Apparently they still need to manually sort through images exported by original typepad platform (which came with no metadata/post association).
I'm just glad STC's back online again though.
Ray: Just a note to say STC is officially back up and running!! You can view our new home via smallthingsconsidered.blog
just a few more days, and then we'll be back...
@ContamClub So the students were supposed to make smears of sterile water, to check their technique. This one 1. did something weird with the streak technique and 2. got a really nice contaminant slightly outside her own drawing?
Anybody knows where the sun like structure comes from? The plate is about a week old, not super dry, grew at room temperature.
