Hey @peertube is close to their 3rd goal of 55K €, which would allow people to livestream right from their phone! 😊 2 days left to donate, I just did! 💵

Edit: Woah! We're at 58K € now! Good job everyone! 😍 27 hours to make it to the 4th goal at 75K €. 🤟🏻

Denmark’s Ministry of Digital Government is phasing out its use of Microsoft Office.. to switch to open source alternatives like LibreOffice instead.

Why? Because relying too heavily on a US tech giant for your nation’s digital infrastructure is starting to feel a bit... well, risky.

Denmark's relationship with the US is under strain, following Donald Trump's clearly stated ambition to seize control of Greenland, and recent reports of increased spying by the States on Greenland and Denmark.

Did you know that all of our data centers operate on 100% green electricity? 🤔

With our self-developed designs for data centers, servers, custom racks, and precision-engineered cooling systems, we’re minimizing thermal loss and optimizing our power usage efficiency (PUE) — delivering lower operational costs and a reduced environmental footprint. Believe it or not, but some of our data centers have a PUE of 1,1!

Oh, PeerTube (an open, self-hostable, decentralized video platform) is still accepting crowdfunding donations for their mobile app, and sadly is still missing quite a bit:

support.joinpeertube.org/en/

I'd love for it to become more popular. To me, personally, the lack of a mobile, but especially an AndroidTV app that can follow submissions on multiple instances, was always kinda a dealbreaker for me to use it regularly.

BUT I love the project and want it to succeed so we have a better YouTube alternative!

So, maybe you can also chip in, or just spread the word that it exists. ❤️

#OpenToWork Hi y'all.
I'm now properly looking for a new job, available from early September for a senior software role. Ideally, in #Kotlin or Java-to-Kotlin conversion. I think I can tick just about all the important boxes for backend development and some more. (especially XP, #DevOps, #TDD, trunk-based development, pairing, fast feedback cycles). Ideally, #remote or flexible #HybridWorking in #London (the one in the #UK).

Hi Mastodon! 👋
We are the OST (Overwhelmingly Small Telescope) Observatory at the University of Potsdam in Golm, on the outskirts of Potsdam, Germany.

Our main telescope is a PlaneWave CDK20 Astrograph. We focus on educating students in astronomy and supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate projects. We occasionally capture and share astronomical images, and we are excited to post some of them here.

We are also passionate about science outreach and regularly participate in public events such as the Potsdam Day of Science and the Long Night of Astronomy.

Follow us for updates in both English and German!

@davidbaakman You might want to have a look at #InterColo, S2 1TB for €3,83 ex Vat per month if you pay per year. It goes further down when you increase the number of years.

If you can, please consider a donation. Creating free game assets takes a looooot of time and unfortunately (what a surprise huh?) isn't the most profitable. It does really help, and I'd like to do this for another 10 years at LEAST. ✨

Just targeting people.

While tries to hit Russian ammunition factories (and not without success), simply launches "Shahed" drones at people.

Yesterday it was and , today . Multy-storey residential buildings, private houses.

3 people killed, 65 wounded.

Every day, not a single day of respite, hundreds of drones. Relentless, savage terror.

The image depicts a nighttime scene of a severe car accident. Two vehicles are heavily damaged and appear to have collided. The front of one car is completely crushed, with its hood and engine parts exposed. The other vehicle also shows significant damage, particularly to its front and side. The scene is illuminated by bright floodlights, suggesting that emergency or recovery operations are underway. Several people wearing high-visibility vests and hard hats are present, indicating the involvement of emergency responders or construction workers. In the background, there is a building with some lights on, and trees are visible around the area. The ground is muddy, possibly due to recent rain or the activities of the emergency vehicles. An excavator is also present, likely being used to clear the wreckage. The image shows a nighttime scene of a building on fire. The fire is concentrated on the upper floors of the structure, with bright orange flames and thick black smoke billowing out of the windows. The building appears to be a multi-story residential or office complex. The fire is intense, and the heat can be felt through the image. In the foreground, there are trees and some greenery, adding contrast to the dark and fiery background. The photo is taken from a low angle, looking up at the building, emphasizing the height and severity of the fire. There is a logo in the top left corner, which seems to belong to an emergency service, possibly indicating that firefighting efforts are underway.

While brushing up my resume, I am seriously considering #freelancing full time again. I haven't done that for the better part of 15 years. What does that landscape look like now in the realm of #devops, #sre #programming, #linux, #sysadmin, #netadmin, and #infosec?

Back in the day I was using several freelancing sites but I suspect those have turned into a race for the bottom. Mastodon is also my only social media presence. I don't know what's popular these days.

I need to do some research

European hard drive?

I recently cancelled my Dropbox subscription, and will now be running local backups instead. For that purpose I need an external hard drive.

It seems most companies (Western Digital, Kingston, Seagate) are American, with Japanese Toshiba occasionally showing up in my search results.

Does anyone know of/have any experience with European storage manufacturers? If not I guess Toshiba will have to do. :)

I don’t think there are any European companies manufacturing HDDs themselves. Some, for example German Intenso, sell HDDs under their name, but the actual manufacturer will be a different one. For SSDs, there’s Swissbit and Goodram.
