The world is still on track to exceed 1.5°C of global warming by 2030. The current pledges by countries to cut emissions are not enough to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. However, it is still possible to limit warming to 1.5°C if urgent and ambitious action is taken now.

Problem 1: hydrogen aircraft are unable to meet climate targets in time and quantity

Even if the schedule announced by Airbus in 2020 is met, it will be too late. According to @UNEP@twitter.com, global GHG emissions must be reduced by 55% by 2030 and 90% by 2050 for staying below #1point5.

The 'International Aviation Climate Ambition Coalition" #IACAC is just another distraction. #COP26

To align aviation with #1point5 we must:
- tax jet fuel
- tax frequent flyers more
- ban short-haul flights
- stop airport expansions
- foster alternatives

More flights and more airports will lead to more climate heating. Any agreement that does not reduce air traffic in rich countries is not 'ambitious'.

#2 Electric Flight. The aviation industry tells us the contribution of electric aircraft to reduce emissions will be significant. That's not true: the only aircraft likely to be certified this decade will be very small, we won’t see larger ones before 2050. Too late for #1point5.

It's #COP26 and the #aviation industry has no plan - and no intention - to to do its fair share to stay below #1point5.

Instead, it's stepping up its #greenwashing.
